Alice thought it was over. Uzi was alive and well, and because of her last-second intervention so were they. Alice only hoped that she wasn't one to hold grudges.

Then, before either she or Beau could heal up, Uzi was upon them, reaching into their chests and ripping out their cores.

Fuck.

She was just about to plead for them to at least spare Beau when Uzi spoke.

"We're done. We're going home. We've had enough of this shithole and We. Are. Going. Home."

She didn't snap, snarl, growl or even raise her voice. She simply made a statement; a fact of life that they couldn't and wouldn't do anything about. But Alice could tell there was something simmering beneath the calm. The girl wanted her get-back for her own murder, but she had priorities.

Alice could respect that. She did respect that.

"Fine by me. Take yer boyfriend and skedaddle."

For a moment Alice wanted to say something. Maybe one last smarmy remark about the girl walking away just like her mother. But she knew that was bullshit. Just her battered ego trying to take some of the sting out of being beaten like a rented mule. Uzi had held up her end of the bargain, they had what they needed.

"Kinda mouthy for someone so...aerodynamic," Uzi grunted, giving Alice's core a threatening squeeze before tossing both her and Beau back into their respective cavities. "Let's go, N."

*****

Soaring through the night sky was a treat Uzi seldom got to enjoy, mostly because she still didn't know how to ask N to be her MMO mount for an hour or two without being cringe. But now here she was, cutting through the air on the back of her best friend, and she was feeling anything but good. She wasn't pouting, though.

darkxwolf17: This sucks.

Definitely NOT pouting.

SD-N: Sorry.

Uzi gave N a firm poke on the back of the head.

darkxwolf17: Stop that. It's not your fault that I finally get wings and they're useless. Just sitting here all floppy and gross.

Emphasis on the "gross", as the wings were entirely organic. Honestly, she was sorely tempted to cut them off and see if she could suppress her regeneration, because if she couldn't even use them she would prefer not to be seen with them if she could help it. But she knew that the last thing N needed was to watch her mutilate herself.

'Though seeing it from the other side might make him understand why I hate the weapon tests...'

N turned his head a full one-eighty to flash her a smile that was a lot more...brittle than he intended.

SD-N: I'm sure you'll get the hang of it in no time.

He also didn't need the stress of her asking him to fly up to around ten-thousand feet so she could jump off and get the hang of it before they got back.

darkxwolf17: We'll make a night of it sometime soon. Hey, I see the bus!

N turned his head back around to follow Uzi's finger and saw that they were quickly closing on the vehicle.

SD-N: Biscuits! I completely ghosted them that whole time!

darkxwolf17: Valid crashout was valid. I'm sure they understand.

N braced himself and opened the group chat, then blinked owlishly when there wasn't a single new message. He thought for sure Lizzy at least would've spammed the chat on the chance that someone replied, if only to tell her to shut up.
