Jotham's POV

The storm outside raged furiously, the wind howled and the heavy rain thundered on the roof of the castle. Jotham didn't mind though, it gelled with how he felt inside, except the storm that raged within him was far more ravenous.

He sat in his bed underneath the layers of blankets, his laptop balanced on a pillow perched his lap. He leaned his head against the bed frame and typed using his right hand with a blank face, a knock came at his door, he looked at the time projected on his screen. 06:00am he had a guess of who could be at the door.

"Enter." He answered smoothly. The door opened slowly and a boy walked in looking anxious, he squinted as his eyes adjusted to the dim lighting of his room compared to the brightness of the hall way. His eyes landed on Jotham and he bowed lowly, "good morning your majesty."

Jotham looked up at him, "morning Romeo."

"It's Roman your majesty." He corrected hesitantly. Jotham's eyes slid to him, Roman looked down. "But Romeo works."

"Do you have what I asked you to bring me?" Jotham questioned, he sat up straight.

Roman tiptoed to his bed side and handed him an object wrapped in black plastic. Jotham took it with one hand and immediately started to unravel it, his heart leaped in satisfaction upon seeing the object. "Did anyone see you taking it?"

Roman shook his head vigorously, "not at all your majesty, no one even saw me entet her room. No one was suspecting anything as I was walking. I did very well."

Jotham weighed the item in his hands, it was funny how the key to getting rid of that investigator was something as cheap and inexpensive as this. The plan that brewed in his head would soon be a reality. Laura's recorder was a simple device, but if he has observed her well he's certain her own actions would be the reason for her demise. He'll use her own actions against her. "Was she in her room the time you came?"

"No, she has Legion practice at the moment. The session ends in three hours then they have a one hour breakfast and a one hour break. I memorised the schedule you sent me." Roman told affirmatively.

"That's good. You can leave now."

Roman's smile faltered, he turned from Jotham and took one step before stopping hesitantly. "just like that...you...you said you would promote...me..."

"Oh that," Jotham scoffed, he pointed to his shelves opposite his bed containing a few books and visually appealing objects, "go through that end and you'll find your promotion letter signed and sealed with my father's stamp."

Roman hurried to the shelf and got the folder, clutching it tightly. He scanned through it, his smile grew the more he read. "Thank you so much your majesty." He bowed multiple times.

"However you won't be getting the pay stipulated there but a higher one, I've mentioned that in a letter attached at the back of the folder." Jotham told emotionlessly.

Roman's mouth dropped and his eyes widened, tears glassed them and a gleeful look of relief claimed his expression. He dropped his upper body sharply in a straight, L-shaped bow, "thank you Prince Jotham, the pay will assist my family and I so much."

"Yes, yes, come back in thirty minutes to return it back to her room then take the key back to the council office." He replied absently.

Roman bowed once more and tiptoed to the door with an air of happiness, he hugged the folder tightly against his chest and gently shut the door. Jotham connected the recorder to his laptop and got to work.

...

Laura walked into the locker room with her water bottle in her hand and her quiver across her back. She stopped in her slow walk and gazed at everyone, their eyes glared back at her, she brushed it off and headed to her locker.
