My phone ringing woke us up the next morning. Ugh, I don't ever get to sleep in. Even on a damn Saturday. I reach over and grab my phone, and see Liam's number pop up. I finally decide to answer it and I hear his voice on the other line. "Is the joke over yet Maci? Get your fat ass home. I'm getting sick of this shit." My mouth falls open and I crawl out of bed, my hand over the phone speaker as I make my way into the living room. I sit down outside on the patio and light a cigarette. "I'm not coming back to you. It's over. I'm happy being here, with Luke. He treats me like good. You'd do good to move on and find someone else," I calmly reply. Act like an adult. Don't yell. An annoying loud laugh vibrates the speaker and I hold it away from my ear. "Come on, don't be stupid. Do you really think he cares? I know where you are ya know. Don't make me come and get you. That will be bad for everyone." I take a deep breath, calming myself befor I speak. He last thing I want to do is over react. That's exactly what he wants after all and that will only wake Luke up. "Liam, I think you need to lose my number. I don't particularly take threats like that lightly and I doubt Luke does either. His dad's a cop, ya know." I hear rustling in the apartment and I peek through the window. Just what I need right now. Luke stands in the window and bangs the door open. How long as he been standing there? Fuck, what all has he heard. He reached over, snatching the phone from me and yelling into it. "I can assure you, I don't take threats to my girlfriend lightly and if you call again, I swear I will have your ass six feet deep. Leave Maci the hell alone, you scumbag." He slams the phone down on the patio table and takes me up in his arms. "Are you okay? What did he say? Let's go inside okay," he asks me fast. I can only nod and sit there stunned at how angry he looks. Never have I ever seen him that upset but for some reason, I find myself loving him even more. I don't think I've ever felt more safe than I do right now. He reaches down, grabbing my hand and pulling me up from my seat and leads me inside. Why now? He hasn't contacted me in over two months and he chooses now to show up? My phone rings again but this time Luke reaches it first. He looks at the screen a second before answering it and takes a deep breath, calming himself down. It must not have been Liam again because his face softens when he hears the voice. "Hello? Maybe I ask who's calling?" I can hear a girls voice faintly through the speakers. "Yes well, Maci isn't able to come to the phone.. Yes.. Of course.. I'll tell her, you called.. Okay.. Bye." He hangs up and tucks the phone into his pocket, turning to me. "Some girl named Katelyn looking for you. She says it's important but it's nothing we can't deal with later," he says to me. Luke reaches for my hand again and opens the front door, leading me inside. "Let's get you cleaned up. How about you go take a shower and I'll make us some brunch okay?" I nod and make my way to the room. A bath sounds pretty amazing and as I walk, I see my bubble bath sitting on the side of the tub. My mind starts wondering to who the hell Katelyn was. I knew one Katelyn that I dated when I was fourteen and was going through a rebellious phase and had to decided that I was a lesbian but other than that, I didn't know many Katelyn's. Now that I started thinking about it, I don't think I knew many people back in Texas. My horizon of friends didn't broden till I was here. Sure, there was my coworkers and mine and Liam's family but it's not like I was very close to his family. Thet were pretty rude to me. Hated me, in fact. One time, at a family reunion Liam had dragged me to, his cousin Brittany had actually tried to get me to fight her. The rule was if I lost, I had to leave. I sit in the bath water for at least an hour, relaxing until Luke knocks on the door quietly. "Breakfast is done when you're ready babe," he hollars. "Okay, I'll be out in just a little." I get out of the tub and wrap a towel around me. After drying off and slipping into a snug pair of jeans and Auburn sweater I had from years ago, I make my way into the bedroom and check my text messages. My heart stops after reading one from the unknown number that called earlier. 'My name's Katelyn. I'm with your ex, Liam and I need your help."
