The next day of school I was met at the front by Emily. She chatted about all sorts of things, which really didn’t interest me, but I nodded along acting like I knew she was talking about. I saw Bella’s truck pull into the same spot it occupied yesterday. I waved at her to come join us, she was then forced to listen to Emily’s talking as well. I think she was talking about moss…

The bell rang and I slowly got up, wanting to take as much time as I could before going to Math. That plan was ruined.

“What are you doing?” cried Emily.

“Walking really show.” I said.

“Why? We have to get to class or we’ll be late!”

I rolled my eyes. We had a good five minutes and the classroom wasn’t that far away. I sighed and said goodbye to Bella and hurried to catch up with Emily.

You know, there is really no need for this form of math. Really there isn’t. As long as you can add and subtract, I reckon you’re okay. Next was P.E. and I know watching people play sports sounds exciting, but it really wasn’t.

History was my next class and I was really dreading it. I took my time going through the hallways, giving Jasper a chance to get his seat. I came to the classroom door and took a deep breath before going in. As I expected the majority of the class was already there as was Jasper Hale. He was not sitting in the back corner seat, but instead the same one he sat in yesterday.

So it wasn’t the seat! What was it then? This was like the whole Edward/Bella thing, but Jasper obviously wasn’t as scary as Edward was yesterday. Well good, I like this seat, I like how it rocks back and forth, it provides a lot of entertainment. I went to go to my seat, sadly having to go by Jasper. I couldn’t help but sneak a peek at him, but his head was down. Sighing, I went and sat down.

The teacher, Mr. McDuff, started class, “All right, we’ll start with an easy question. Who was the president during the Civil War?”

Crickets could be heard, no one bothered to answer. C’mon people! It’s not that hard!

Giving up on the rest of the class I said, “Abraham Lincoln.”

“Finally,” Mr. McDuff said, “Thank you, Ms. Montgomery. OK, next, I doubt I’ll get an answer, but I’ll ask anyways. Does anyone know the event that started the Civil War?”

Once again nothing.

“Fort Sumter.” I said, getting a lot of looks from everyone, and causing Jasper to turn around and face me. I wasn’t expecting this much attention, and it took me off guard.

“Correct Brighton, do you mind briefly explaining it?”

“OK,” I started, “Um… well… Fort Sumter was an United States fort off the coast of South Carolina. President Lincoln went to go supply it since it was in Confederate territory, but the South didn’t like this and claimed he didn’t have right to do that, and they would fight if he tried, and well he did and they fought, leading to the bombardment of the fort. It was a Confederate victory with the surrender of the fort.”

“Well done.” said Mr. McDuff, but I didn’t care about the praise, what I cared about was the fact that Jasper Hale was staring at me.

He continued to stare at me a few more seconds before finally turning around in his seat. I let out the breath I hadn’t realized I’d been holding. The rest of the class passed by slowly, with me trying to pay attention, instead of staring at Jasper, and refusing to answer anymore questions, but no matter, Jasper seemed to know all the answers.
