A couple of weeks went by, slowly, but they did. A school dance was coming up, I wasn’t going. Unlike Bella, it wasn’t that I affected everyone’s well being with my dancing. I could dance, I just didn’t like dances. Hours in heels that made your feet cry in pain, just didn’t appeal to me. Plus, there was the whole asking thing. The dance was girl’s choice, but the guys seemed to take it into their own hands.
Walking into Trig I found a note on my desk, the giggling girls (I really need to learn their names) looking at me, giggling, and Emily giving me a pitying smile. Raising one of my eyebrows, I went to sit down and open the note. My name was scribbled messily on the front. Opening the note, I glanced around wondering who had sent it. I scanned it and a frown formed on my face. “Oh no,” I groaned in my head. The note said:
Brighton,
Want to go to the dance with me?
Matt
Honestly. In a note? Is this junior high? Matt was an OK kid, slightly nerdy, but nice. Although, all respect I had from him was now lost. Ugh, I hate having to do this. All through Trig I had to endure expectant glances from Matt.
When the bell rang, I walked over to Matt’s desk where he was collecting his things.
“Hi Matt.” I said. He looked at me giving me a smile. Why me?
“I’m sorry Matt, but I can’t go with you, I’m not going to the dance. Sorry.”
I watched his face fall. It was horrible. I left quickly before he could say anything.
The rest of the day passed by fairly quickly, P.E. was boring, but good news my cast is coming off soon, not so good news, I’d have to do gym. The rest of the classes passed by normally. Normally, being Jasper not talking or acknowledging me and us competing for questions in history. Things with Jasper were obviously not looking up.
Although, at least I knew where I stood unlike Bella. Poor Bella, Edward goes from talking to her, to saving her, to not talking to her. Or, like one day at lunch, when I was sitting with Bella and we were chatting about school, parents, anything. When suddenly Edward motions her to go to sit with him. She looked at me pleading.
“Fine,” I said, “go.”
She didn’t waste too much time after that.
I left the table in a huff, and slammed my tray down next to Emily.
“What’s wrong with you?” she asked.
“Edward Cullen is what’s wrong with me, the selfish bastard.”
Emily just nodded, not really caring. I watched Bella interact with Edward, they both seemed content, or in Bella’s case slightly confused as she always was around him. Both of them must have gotten angry with each other as Bella held a glare, and her lips were moving quickly. The anger must have not lasted long, because not too long after they were laughing again. So now, apparently they’re going to Seattle together.
I stomped off to English, where my breath was taken away by Jasper (he can’t help it) and my ear chatted off by Alice. Then, we went to Study Hall. Jasper had now taken to walking with us, not bolting out the door like the first few days of school. Although not many words were exchanged between us since the “Don‘t cheat! It‘s bad!” conversation.
All three of us, walked to the back table where Emmett and Edward were already there. Still peeved at Edward, I sat down noisily in my seat. Edward looked at me. Ah, glad I gained his attention.
“You know it isn’t nice to steal people away from people.” I said, with my eyes flashing at him.
“I didn’t know you owned Bella.” he said calmly. Damn him!
