Months had passed, and graduation was soon. Emmett, Rosalie, Jasper, and I would be graduating. Bella, Edward, and Alice still had another year to go. I was thankful that my high school career was coming to an end, even though my senior year had been pleasant.
After my short stay with the Cullens, I grudgingly knew I had to go home. Alice and I could only make up so many excuses. Besides, my Dad was starting to get suspicious of Jasper. Carlisle didn’t approve of me going back, but understood why I had to. It was a strict known fact that I was to be called often, so I could check in with the family, making sure I didn’t massacre my own. I’d grown to tolerate the smell of blood, although the burning had dulled only slightly and sometimes I grew dizzy from the smell. My thirst was still extreme, causing me to hunt almost every week.
The first day back at school was rough, not only with my throat constantly reminding me I was thirsty, and Jasper hovering over me protectively, but also due to the amount of gossip that followed. After being almost a week out of school for “medical” reasons, thanks to the doctor’s note from Carlisle, I was talked about. I had drastically changed, not only in appearance, but as well has the hand that slid around my waist, and the pecks I received in the hallways.
“Is that Brighton Montgomery? You know, the new, shy girl? She looks so different. Is she dating Jasper Hale? Lucky.”
I must admit, I had myself quite a catch, and wore a smug expression on my face as Jasper and I walked down the hallways. Nothing had really changed though. I still sat with Emily in Trig. The looks she gave me told me she didn’t approve of Jasper. Jasper and I still competed for questions in history, the little over achievers that we were. Jasper mainly did it to rile me up, contradicting me on some of my answers, ensuing long arguments during class.
Study Hall though, was my favorite class. Almost all the Cullens were there, and since now I truly felt accepted into the family, I was more at ease. Something was different, my seat had changed. I no longer sat next to Alice since on my first day back when I went to go sit next to her she said, “What are you doing?”
I shrugged, looking at her weird, “Sitting next to you?”
“No, you need to go sit next to your boyfriend.” she said, teasing me.
I didn’t mind, so I happily made my way to Jasper and plopped, well… I don’t “plop” anymore. I happily sat down next to Jasper and opened my Trig book towards the back.
“Don’t cheat.” I heard from Jasper, who hadn’t even bothered looking up from his book.
This sucks.
My first night back home was boring! I told Dad and Janet that I had already eaten at the Cullens and wasn’t hungry. Janet was a bit peeved by this, refusing to talk to me for the rest of the night. Then, as if that wasn’t bad enough, I had eight hours on average to kill, while everyone was sleeping. Eight hours! I was bored, no Cullens there to entertain me.
I went into the bathroom to play with my hair for some entertainment, but ended up looking at myself instead. I practically spent hours touching various parts of my face, trying to believe that this is what I looked like and not some mirage. This sounds vain, but I was pretty, not plain like I used to be, or at least I thought I was plain. Jasper would disagree.
The rest of the nights were not spent in boredom, as Jasper snuck in through the window. Risky, I know. He would leave in the mornings, and I would later see him about an hour later. Weekends were mainly spent at the Cullens, having weekly “slumber parties” with Alice and Rosalie. I didn’t spend much time at my own house, since I doubted my self control. While I spent my time at the Cullens, I didn’t always spend my time with Jasper. Alice, Rosalie, and I did have those slumber parties. Not for long though, because Emmett usually came barging in with Jasper not too far behind.
