After they left, everyone broke off to do their own thing. Emmett and Rosalie went to work on their cars, Carlisle went to his study, while Esme went into the kitchen to work on something. I went to watch the football game that Emmet had left on, Jasper came down a few minutes later with a book in hand. He sat down, and I laid my head down in his lap, watching the moving figures on the screen. His fingers, absentmindingly, combed through my hair as he read his book.
Alice came back in, I waved my hand to acknowledge her, she went upstairs to work on a design program that she has. I abruptly sat up and screamed, “GO! GO!” at the TV. Jasper wasn’t very happy, yelling a “Brighton!” as he went to grab the book I knocked out of his hands.
“Who are you rooting for?” he asked.
“The blue team, they have better uniforms.”
He chuckled, “Emmett would approve.”
I continued to sit up, watching the TV intently. A few minutes later I stood up again and screamed, “Yes! Touchdown!”
Emmett came running in, “Who scored?”
“Blue team.” I replied.
“Yes!” he yelled, as he went back to the garage.
Later that night, when Jasper and I were in bed…. How should I say this? We heard Edward and Bella. I had my head under my pillow while yelling, “EW! EW! EW!” They were so loud! Jasper laughed as if it were the funniest thing.
Finally, I couldn’t take it anymore and I grabbed my keys off the dresser. “Where are you going?” asked Jasper.
“Ear plugs.” I replied. Jasper laughed again. “That isn’t going to help much.” he said, while following me downstairs.
“It’ll help a little. I’ll be back.” I ran out towards the car, they were still going. “Shut up!” I yelled to them. They didn’t listen. I went to one of those twenty-four hour convenience stores and bought several boxes of ear plugs. The guy at the check out gave me a strange look.
“Very loud neighbors.” I explained, as I grabbed the bag of ear plugs. When I got back everybody wanted them. I was a genius, our night was now spent in quiet again.
When Bella and Edward came in the next morning, I did my best not to look at them. I would never see them the same way again. Jasper and I were sitting on the couch, reading the paper. We had a system worked out, he would get the front page, while I got local news and entertainment. This solved a lot of early morning arguments. Renesmee was playing with Rosalie and Emmett, bending silverware, but we all acted like this was normal. Rosalie told Bella that Renesmee had been up for awhile, wanting her mommy and daddy. She then said, “We didn’t want to… er, bother you.”
I held my hand over my mouth to hide the growing smile. I was so immature sometimes. Bella looked to Nessie, “We’ll get your room set up right away. You’ll like the cottage. Thank you, Esme, so much. It’s absolutely perfect.”
Emmett could not hold back his laughter no more, “So it’s still standing?” A few giggles escaped my mouth. “I would’ve thought you two had knocked it to rubble by now. What were you doing last night? Discussing the national debt?”
A huge guffaw escaped my mouth. “Poor Brighton had to go get ear plugs!” he said in between laughs. I offered her a sympathetic smile, this was just the beginning of Emmett’s teasing. I would know.
As Rosalie began talking about going back East and Emmett further teasing Bella, I began to get homesick for this place, and we hadn’t even left yet. Edward’s growl broke my thoughts and me jump while muttering curse words.
