Jasper led me to one of the side walls, away from the crowd in the middle of the room. I kept my eye on that Jessica girl, who was watching Jasper. I latched onto his arm tightly. Jasper wasn’t stupid though, he followed my gaze to a now giggling and blinking Jessica.

“Brighton! I would have never pegged you as the jealous type.” he said.

I gave him an are-you-kidding look.

“I have to be! If I left you alone for one second, girls would be all over you.”

“I wouldn’t pay attention to them, you know that right?” his eyes flicked to mine, searching for an answer.

“Of course I know that! I’m just looking out for your safety.”

He laughed. I saw Alice fiddling with the CDs, suddenly big, loud band music came through the speakers, a song I believe is called “In the Mood.”

Jasper turned to me, “Can you swing dance?”

“Pssh… can I swing dance.”

“Right, sorry, shouldn’t have asked. Let’s go.”

He led me out to the middle of the floor, it was empty. The other kids didn’t know how to dance to this sort of music, so they left the dance floor. Jasper, being fancy, threw me in the air and swung me around his waist. I’m surprised that actually worked, I’d done it with other partners in a dance class, and had been dropped every time, although as cliché as it sounds, Jasper and I seemed to mold into each other while dancing.

Emmett and Rosalie were dancing too. It was funny to see someone big like Emmett able to dance with such grace. The other kids stood awkward against the walls, watching us dance. I had a feeling Rosalie liked this. The song ended and the music everyone recognized came back on, so the dance floor filled up again. Alice and I continued to dance for awhile, before we both decided to take a break, since we were scaring people with our outrageous dance moves.

I sat down against the wall watching Jasper talk to Emmett, it must have been a funny conversation since Jasper laughed a lot. Band music came back on, this time slower, which I recognized as Frank Sinatra’s “Day by Day.”

“May I have this dance, Miss Montgomery?” a deep, think, Southern accent asked.

“Why you may, Mr. Hale.” I said, trying to imitate the accent.

“Brighton, that was horrible!” laughed Jasper.

I grumbled, “Shut up, it’s been awhile!”

While Jasper and I swayed back and forth to the music, I asked, “What reminds you of me?”

“Oranges.” he said, without thinking about it.

“Oranges?”

“Yeah, when you were human you smelt very citrus-y. You smelt good. What about me?”

“Mood rings.”

“Mood rings? It makes sense, but it’s completely random.” An amused expression crossed his face.

I laid my head on his chest, “I was in the store the other day, and this little girl had a mood ring on, and I thought of you.” I explained.

Out of the corner of my eye I saw Jessica watching Jasper.

“Ugh! Why won’t she go away?” I whined, then glared at her.

“Jesus Brighton! Don’t scare her!” Jasper mumbled.
