“They will come; they shall save you before you fade into the darkness. They will soon arrive and then you must choose. To be a coward or to do right.”

A few days later Adrian was no longer the boy in the valley. After the tragedy that had happened Adrian went to live with his grandmother in Chester - a city in Cheshire. That came as a shock to him considering he had never met her before. But he did it after his father’s request.

After a bit of convincing from Matthew White Adrian showed up to the reading of his fathers will. Him and him only at first. It was pretty weird for him sitting in an empty room alone with a man he despised, but it was even worse when a woman with a grey jacket just barged in.

“Aren’t you going to hug your grandmother you filthy child” she said in a non-humoristic way and with a cigarette firmly planted between her lips.

His grandmother was thin and it looked like she was built up by pencils. Her hair was completely black but still she had a very pale face. She pretty much looked a vampire.

"Mrs. Hacket, I'm glad you could join us. Although I told you to come earlier" Matthew snapped.

"I had other places to attend. Now, have you filled the boy in on everything."

Adrian felt like he was invisible while sitting in the leather chair. He turned to Matthew and gave him a confused look.

"Adrian, it is written in your fathers will that he wants you to live with you're grandmother. I will read it out to you."

Adrian was speechless as the attorney read. He shifted in his chair a few times since his grandmothers eyes were following him the whole time. His stomach was making a lot of noise and his mind was telling him that things were about to change drastically. He had already lost his father he didn't want anything else to change, but it did.

Later that evening he had found out that not only did he have to stay with his crazy grandma; she also got his father’s money. Adrian would bet that was the only reason she was letting him stay with her. His grandmother was his mother’s mum and she wasn’t happy when her daughter got married to Harold. This was probably a revenge for that, he thought.

His grandmother’s name was Margaret Wilch.

Grandmother Wilch was around 60 years old but still she seemed younger. Apart from a few wrinkles and grey hair, she looked like she was 40. Adrian wouldn’t be surprised if she was a witch who used wizardry to look younger.

When Adrian was done with his family reunion they took a bus all the way to Chester. In which his grandmother didn’t say a word. And Adrian wasn’t going to argue about that. He was just happy she was silent. From what he had heard and seen he didn’t want to know anything about his new grandma.

When Adrian got out of the bus he was relieved and also sad. This was the first time he had been so far away from the valley. It felt like breathing in new air. But the bad weather ruined it. Not only was Adrian sad, it seemed the clouds were sad too since they were all grey instead of their natural nice colour blue. Before Adrian got to enjoy the new sight, his grandmother threw her purse at him.

“Hey, what’s that for” he said with a stab of anger.

“Perhaps you didn’t know this but if it wasn’t for me you wouldn’t have been born. The least you can do is carry my purse” she said still calm. Adrian sighed and then took hold of her purse. When they reached the house Adrian was shocked. Which perhaps he shouldn’t have been. What else should he have expected from a widowed old woman with a twitching eye? The house was placed in the middle of three other houses in the street. But unlike the others this one was horrible. The house was originally painted blue, but after a period of time it started to look like it was more grey than blue.
