Dante’s POV (Four days after the jacket incident)
The match was in full swing.
Metal clashed, sparks danced across the stadium floor, the air alive with the pulse of spinning beys colliding, the roar of the crowd shaking everything around us. I was at the edge of my seat, yelling before I even realized it.
“Come on, Delta! You got this!!!”
My voice got swallowed by the noise, but it didn’t matter. Seeing him battle up close again… it was unreal. That sharp focus in his eyes, the way his movements matched every shift of his bey, calm, precise, but ruthless. I could almost feel the pressure from here.
Beside me, Valt was grinning like a proud dad. “Now that’s the Delta I know!”
I laughed a little under my breath. “Yeah…” My eyes stayed fixed on the stadium. Delta was completely in his element, like the whole world disappeared and all that existed was him, Devolos, and victory.
I couldn’t help but feel a bit nostalgic, reminiscing back when we were still in BC Sol as Valt’s students, me trying to get a glimpse of Delta’s practice, sneaking around just so I could watch him train trying to figure out how he made battling look so effortless.
And even now, after everything, I still admire him. Maybe even more than before.
Then, right when the final clash was about to land, when the energy in the air was about to snap-
A crack. Loud enough to cut through everything.
The stadium lights flickered. For a moment, it felt like the whole building exhaled.
And then, silence.
The beyblades slowed to a halt, spinning off course as a cold wind swept across the arena floor. Every hair on my arms stood on end.
Delta’s head snapped up instantly, eyes narrowing. “What..?”
“What the-?” Valt muttered, scanning the arena.
The next moment, smoke curled up from the stadium floor, and a voice, smooth, low, sharp as glass sliced through the silence.
“Pathetic. I expected more from the so-called best bladers in the whole wide world.”
Every muscle in my body went rigid. That voice..
No. No, it couldn’t be. Not here. Not now.
The crowd shifted, confused and murmuring as someone stepped out onto the stadium floor. His presence alone was enough to make the atmosphere shift. His movements were slow, confident, the kind of confidence that didn’t need to prove itself anymore. The faint glint of his Bey hung at his side, like a predator waiting to strike.
Arthur Peregrine.
My stomach twisted. The air around me suddenly felt too thin.
“Who’s that guy?” Valt muttered, frowning. “He doesn’t look like part of the lineup.”
Down in the stadium, Delta faced him, looking at him with calm precision. “And you are?”
Arthur smiled, small, sharp and cruel. “Arthur Peregrine. Remember the name. I’ll be taking control of this stadium soon enough.”
Delta’s expression was unreadable from here, but his eyes lifted, sharp and assessing, the way a predator studies another.
Valt frowned. “What the heck is that guy’s deal?”
I didn’t answer. My pulse was pounding too hard, echoing in my ears. I already knew exactly who and what Arthur was.
Then, his eyes found me. It was instant. His gaze swept the arena once, then locked, dead center on me.
A slow, deliberate grin spread across his face. “Ah,” he said, almost sweetly. “The fallen dragon.”
Every sound around me disappeared. The crowd, the murmurs, even my own heartbeat. Just his words, burning like acid.
The fallen dragon.
I swallowed hard, forcing my feet to stay still, forcing my face not to crumble. But I could feel Delta’s eyes on me now too, sharp, questioning, confused.
Arthur continued, voice echoing like he owned the entire sky. “You’ve been quiet, Dante Koryu. Tell me…” His tone dripped with mockery “Did losing Dragon finally teach you humility?”
The world tilted. People were whispering now, my name passing through the crowd like wildfire.
Valt turned to me, his face pale and confused. “Dante… What is he talking about?”
I couldn’t answer. My throat felt like it was closing. All I could see was that moment again, Dragon bursting apart in front of me, my hands reaching out too late, Arthur’s smirk as the pieces scattered across the ground.
My breath hitched. I backed a step away from the railing.
Arthur tilted his head, still smiling with that same terrible smile.
“No? Nothing to say? That’s fine. You’ve always been better at running, anyway.”
Something in me snapped.
I wanted to yell. To scream. To tell him to shut up, to stop bringing that back. But the words wouldn’t come. I just stood there, fists trembling, eyes burning, as that same hollow ache from all those years ago clawed its way back up my chest.
Arthur turned away first, casually stepping down into the stadium.
“Let’s make things interesting, shall we?”
The crowd erupted in confusion and awe, security scrambling, Valt shouting something, Delta stepping forward with that same unreadable calm, but I wasn’t really there anymore.
All I could see was Dragon, broken, scattered across the floor and Arthur’s laughter echoing in my head.
And for the first time in a long time, I realized I was still running.
