Dante's POV
Two days.
Somehow, there were only two days left.
I didn't understand how that was possible. Seriously.
When we'd first arrived at the beach house, it felt like we had forever. A whole week and a half. Ten entire days. Enough time to relax.
Enough time to think. Enough time to figure things out.
And now?
Now I was sitting on the beach watching the sunset while having what could only be described as an emotional crisis. Because apparently time had decided to sprint.
The last few days blurred together in my memory. Swimming until everyone was exhausted. Volleyball games that somehow turned into arguments. Late-night card games where Fumiya kept inventing rules.
Beach walks. Shopping trips. Movie nights.
Training sessions that absolutely should not have happened during vacation but somehow happened anyway because apparently none of us knew how to relax properly.
Normal things. Good things.
The kind of memories you don't realize you're making until they're already over. The kind that make you wish time would slow down. But it hadn't.
And now there were only two days left.
Two.
Which was exactly why my brain had finally snapped. "...I think I want to confess."
The words escaped before I could stop them. The second they left my mouth, I regretted everything. Immediately.
Beside me, Pheng nearly died. Actually died.
"Cough-!"
He choked on his drink so violently that I instinctively leaned away. The poor guy doubled over coughing.
I stared. "...Are you okay?"
"No."
Another cough. Then he pointed at me. Accusingly. Like this was somehow my fault. "Repeat that."
I immediately considered pretending I hadn't said anything. Unfortunately, it was too late. "...I think I want to confess."
This time he just stared. The ocean waves rolled onto shore. A seagull cried somewhere overhead. The sunset painted orange and gold across the water.
And Pheng continued staring at me like I'd just announced I was moving to Mars. "...Wow."
"...What?"
"No, I'm just..."
He rubbed his face. "...Wow."
"Stop saying wow."
"I'm processing."
"It's not that shocking."
"It absolutely is."
I frowned. Deeply offended. "What is that supposed to mean?"
"It means I genuinely expected you to spend another six months panicking."
"HEY."
"I was being generous."
"PHENG."
"Maybe a year."
"PHENG."
He laughed. Which wasn't helping my nerves. At all.
I grabbed a handful of sand and threw it vaguely in his direction. He moved two inches and completely avoided it. Traitor.
The beach stretched quietly around us. We'd wandered away from the house maybe twenty minutes ago. Not far. Just enough for some privacy.
