Delta's POV
Long distance was supposed to be difficult. At least, that's what everyone kept saying. And sure, there were parts that weren't easy. Different schedules. Different countries. Different time zones.
Days when interviews ran too long. Days when training left both of us exhausted. Days when one of us fell asleep during a call. Usually Dante.
Actually- almost always Dante.
"...Dante."
No response.
"...Dante."
Still nothing.
I stared at the screen. His face was half buried in a pillow. Fast asleep. The video call still running.
"...Tch."
Five minutes ago he'd been talking. Now he was unconscious. Impressive.
Despite everything, somehow- It worked.
We called constantly. Sometimes for hours. Sometimes for only ten minutes. Sometimes just long enough to say goodnight. But we always called. Just like he'd demanded at the airport.
Spain seemed to suit him.
The moment Dante returned to BC Sol, Valt practically adopted him all over again. Not that I was surprised. Valt was incapable of doing things halfway.
According to Dante, the first thing Valt did was challenge him to fifteen battles in one day. The second thing he did was challenge him to another fifteen. Then another. Then another.
"I think he's way worse than Arman. He's trying to kill me."
"He isn't."
"He made me battle for six hours."
"That's training."
"It's attempted murder."
"Tch."
"STOP AGREEING WITH HIM."
But the results spoke for themselves. Month after month, Dante improved. Faster launches. Better control. Smarter decisions. More consistency. More confidence.
He wasn't just getting stronger. He was becoming the blader he used to be. Maybe even better.
And every time he talked about training, that same excitement returned. The same fire. The same determination.
The same reason I fell for him in the first place.
Then the tournament was announced. A massive international event. The biggest one of the year. The winner would earn the right to challenge for the title of World Champion.
My title. Naturally, everyone entered. Including Dante.
The day registrations opened, my phone rang. I answered immediately.
"Dante."
"DELTA."
"...Why are you yelling?"
"I REGISTERED."
"...Congratulations."
"I'm gonna win."
"You won't."
"HEY."
"You won't."
"I'M HANGING UP."
"You called me."
"THAT'S NOT THE POINT."
He was smiling the entire conversation. I could hear it. Even through the phone.
