Jonah Smith, or Jonas Santiago to those he trusted, was a Deathdealer mainly stationed in South America, born to an American agent from an agency that did not officially existed and an Argentinian arms dealer who only heavy hitters bought toys from.
He was a tradesman with specials skills before he was recruited. His mother had been a non-shifter wolf who had been abandoned by her family and her pack for not being pure. It was thought by some back then that non-shifters were the product of a human and a wolf mating. Her mother had been stoned and sent away. Her pack was conservative.
Because his father was also a wolf outcast, as were most wolves in the black market, Jonah had grown up with distrust for any large groups of wolves working or living together who were not family. It had been a little girl, younger back then, who looked more like a school girl than anything else, who had made him reconsider his path and put his skills to good use. If there were girls like her, who looked like they needed protection, and a lesson on how to properly seduce a man, he was needed. She shouldn't have to kill bad people, when he could dirty his hands instead.
That girl was Alex before she met Lucian, when she was actually blooming into a young woman and catching the attention of several for-hire organizations who wanted to use skills like hers.
The third time the Deathdealers asked him to join as a secret operation he accepted, with very little hesitation.
He had been running all day on empty, so he collapsed on top of Alex "Sorry, Chula, but we're in danger..."
Of course, Alex took care of him. Out of all her co-workers, she liked him the most. And the feeling was mutual. She didn't care that he saw her as the baby of the group, because she knew what she meant to him: the thing that made him turn his life around for the better, who helped him get married in a secluded ceremony in the middle of nowhere to the girl who changed him into a good man, and because his wife told her so. He was raised to do the dirty job so those who couldn't or shouldn't wouldn't have to. She explained to Alex that Jonah saw her as an educated young lady, who was supposed to do more important and dignified things than get into a bar brawl over who could shoot better.
Jonah didn't think she was not good enough for the job, but that she was too good to do it.
"How long have I been out?" He was coming to around the time Lucian was making them dinner.
"About ten hours, you were exhausted, and had a couple wounds that for decency's sake Lucian treated." She was sitting next to him on the couch.
Lucian had fought the urge to kick him out when he saw how tenderly she cared for him, and when he started mumbling love words in Spanish.
Jonah was a handsome wolf with naturally tan skin, dirty blond hair, and one eye green and the other brown. He had a history of breaking girls hearts wherever he went.
He made Lucian uncomfortable, when they had been good co-workers before.
"Well, thank you for your hospitality, and I apologize for crashing your hideout. You were the closest safe place for miles, states even...it's not safe for us out there right now." He was mumbling some of his words, still dazed.
"Don't mention it." Lucian said while whisking a sauce.
"What happened?" Alex asked, filled with concern.
It took Jonah a moment to collect his thoughts.
"I was in Vancouver, in an odd mission. I was only instructed to do surveillance and protect, if necessary, an Alpha up there. Apparently, he had received a concerning threat, or something....I just took it, figured it would be like a vacation, something easy...you know she's been hammering me about taking risky missions...
