"I have news!" Shelby and I both squealed at the same time the following Monday.

"Okay, okay, okay," we both said in sync...again.

"Ugh," we both groaned.

"Okay what's your news?" I asked.

"Travis asked me to prom!"

"Daniel asked me!"

"EEEKK!" We both screeched. We were both highly excited. However, we both knew long before that they were going to ask us. It was not at all a big surprise so I was not entirely sure why we were freaking out about it all.

"Marie!" Kara said, running up to me.

"Huh?" I asked.

"Sam asked me to prom!" She laughed.

"Oh my gosh, no way!" I laughed even harder.

"Hahaha," Shelby laughed. She liked Kara but hated Sam for the same reason I used to.

"Does Jen know?" I asked.

"Yeah," Kara responded, calming down. I calmed myself as well. Shelby had calmed down a while ago. I could see Sam and Kara together. Kara was a broken spirit. She was wrapped up in drugs and guys so deep, even she could barely handle it. Her mother also passed away but she was 12, not 13. Her father was not caring nor loving to any extent of the imagination. She took her anger out using a blade and her thigh and did not have many people to truly be there for her. However, none of those negative factors affected the way Sam cared for her. Sam was loyal as it was, but when it came to Kara, he would take a bullet for her. She relied on him quite a bit and he accepted that. He embraced it actually.

"I honestly think that's awesome though. Good for you babe," I said.

"Thanks, Mar," she said in a sweet tone.

                                                                                          ***

"Hey babe," I said to Alex that day after school. I had walked into his house and saw him sitting at his counter with a bag of cheese puffs and his tablet, watching a movie. He looked at his watch less wrist.

"Right on time," he mocked. I had a specialty for barging in on him unattended.

"Ha-ha," I said blankly, grabbing a nutter bar from his cupboard. He continued watching his show. I sat down across from him.

"Have you asked anyone to prom yet?" He shook his head, mesmerized by the episode on his mini television.

"Babe, I'm talkin' to a wall here!" He looked up. Rolling his eyes, he put the cover over his tablet.

"I think I'm gonna ask Melanie," he said. Melanie was one of those people Alex always had a little crush on. He never mentioned her and no one would have ever guessed that he liked her, but he always had, ever since 7th grade.

"Aww, good for you," I said encouragingly.

"Yeah," he said.

"So the choir concert is coming up," I said, changing the subject. We were obviously getting no where talking about prom.

"Ugh."

"Well I'm excited," I said.

"I would laugh so hard if you and that trash broke up and you still had to sing with him."

"Yeah well that's not gonna happen," I said keeping my eyes on his and leaning back to knock my hand on his wooden cupboard. He rolled his eyes.

"You do know you're  gonna have to end it soon anyways cus' there's no way that piece of crap is going anywhere near a college."

"What the hell, Alex? Chill, will you?"

"Eh," he groaned.

"Kay, well I'm not dealing with this shit," I said getting up. I threw my nutter bar wrapper in the garbage and left. Alex hated him. He had his reasons. Not only was Daniel a drug abuser and had been known to cheat here and there, but he had been affecting my friendship with Alex. We did not have as much fun together. Alex and I had not been on an adventure since the waterfall in September. Alex was still a really important aspect of my life. I just needed to remind him.

----------------------------------------------So there are some people that are rather excited about Marie and Daniel. Then there is Alex. Perhaps he is just nervous for Marie and doesn't want her to get hurt. Or maybe he's still jealous, who knows what'll happen? Remember to read, comment, and VOTE.
