*One hour after the accident*

My eyes slowly opened.

"Hey, babe," Shelby said, standing over me. Her blonde, wavy locks of hair were tucked loosely behind her single pierced ears. I rubbed my head and looked around, sitting up.

"What the hell?" I mumbled.

"You're in the hospital. You passed out."

"Why?" I asked, completely confused.

"Marie," she sighed.

"Shelby. What?" I said sitting up even further.

"Marie, your dad passed out. His heart has been failing a bit. He uh. He has cancer. Bone cancer." She could barely look me in the eyes.

"Hey!" Daniel said, running up to us. He scooted over to me and wrapped me in his arms. I did not hug back. I was too shocked to do anything. He held me another minute before letting go.

"What's going on?" He said in a low voice, looking to Shelby.

"My dad's dying," I said, looking forward with a blank stare. Daniel's head dropped to the side slightly and his frown grew. He sat next to me on the bed. I scooted over. He laid down beside me, wrapping me in his arms. Shelby sat next to us, rubbing my back. I put my hands on Daniel's chest and cried quietly. He held me for a long while.

About 30 minutes later I was released and allowed to see my father.

"Dad!" I said, relieved as I looked at him laying in his bed, conscious.

"Hey, baby," he said in a mumbling tone.

"It's gonna be alright. I know it," I said. Although, I did not know. I did not know if he would be okay. I did not know if he would even live. Honestly, I was scared. However, I would never let him or anyone else know that.
