When we first met, you held my hand,
Told me you loved me, begged me to understand.

You promised me forever, and I lived for it,
You made me love you bit by bit.

But time, that thief, came soft and slow,
And took you somewhere I couldn't follow.

Now I count the days like falling stars,
Each one that fades still carries my scars.

Your laughter, your voice, it lingers in the air,
A ghost of the warmth that is no longer there.

Half of forever, what a cruel design,
To give me your love, then draw the line.

You kept your vow in your own way.
Eternal rest, while I still yearn and decay.

I was your forever until you left me behind,
In this world, all alone, wishing it were time I could rewind.

I was your forever, but without you, I still have to live a lifetime.
I was your forever, but you'll only ever be half of mine.

Half of forever was long enough to know what it feels like to hold eternity in your hands, but just too short to savor it.

How could I have stopped it before it slipped through my fingers?
