A tall dark haired man with large glasses and cold blue eyes stood in front of a black door marked Room 13. He checked his watch and then walked into the dimly lit room and sat down in one of the red antique chairs next to 5 other men who looked about the same as him. Plain suits, black ties and combed hair. He nodded to the short white haired man standing in the front of the room.
The old man turned to the large projection on the wall behind him and picked up a remote off the dark wood table. A picture of a dark haired, dark eyed, and solemn looking girl showed up on the projection.
“Katarjna Ryder. She’s was our youngest recruit, but is quickly becoming one of our best. She signed up with us in Berlin. She was 16 and had just finished High School and was traveling the world before going back to Chicago. It was the perfect opportunity and perfect cover.
She already had the skills, we just put her in some training classes…extensive weapons, hand to hand combat, , parachuting, Code Communications, all the basics.
Ryder had her first op three weeks after signing. She completed it in a week, with no problems. That was the “Harrow Assignment.” Here’s the folder.” The white haired man handed 6 folders marked “Harrow-Berlin” to the men.
She left Berlin two days later and continued her travels. We contacted her two months later in Egypt. She flew to Iran…that mission is classified. I can de-brief you later. That mission also was completed quickly and no problems.
Ryder carried out 27 Assignments within the three years of her travels. The assignments were in various countries. There were no problems. The assignments were complex and meant to be taken care of swiftly…she had no hesitations. She recently completed the Jensen Mission in Berlin.”
The dark haired man cleared his throat and adjusted his glasses. “How old is this girl, exactly?”
“19.” The white haired man responded.
“I was not under the impression we signed girls at 16, Harold.” The dark haired man said.
Harold put down the remote and shrugged. “We had only been signing 19 and older…but Agent Evans saw her in Berlin and put her to a test…she passed and he recommended we sign her even though she was only 16…he said it would be an advantage…and he was right. No one even suspects her cause she’s so young.”
The dark haired man frowned. “Agent James Evans?”
Harold nodded.
“Where is her family? Don’t they know anything about this? What are the weak points in her cover? Does anyone she knows outside her cover suspect anything?” The dark haired man adjusted his glasses as he asked the questions.
Harold pulled up another page. “As you can see here, Ryder has no birth parents. Her mother died giving birth and her father disappeared the day she was born. No information about him since then. Assumed dead.
Ryder was put in a local orphanage, reportedly considered a troublesome protégé since the age of 3. Apparently she was picking locks, hot-wiring the owner’s car, climbing out of the third floor windows and climbing down the brick house; she taught herself how to read and was reading Dickens when she was 4.
