You hate him. No, you loathe that man and only want to see him miserable. Or better be gone entirely.
Who?
The bodyguard your father picked to observe you, to watch over you for every single second of the day. And oh, to protect you, of course.
You snort.
As if you need that! But your father, ambassador of a little country, temporarily residing in Linkon City, thinks otherwise, and the purple-haired man who is now your shadow does his best to stick to the order.
Rafayel is with you every second of the day; there is not one moment when you are alone. Well, except for the minutes in the bathroom. But any other time of the day? Yes, exactly. He's part of it. Always three steps behind, or leaning casually against a wall, observing the surroundings, or what's even worse, watching you.
And what makes you hate him? The bodyguard an absolute ace at finding you every time you sneak out, trying to flee his perceiving gaze. No matter how clever you escape, he's there shortly after you celebrate your victory of successfully fooling him.
It might not be bad if Rafayel weren't such a tease about that fact. For every occasion he caught you, you were confronted with a snarky comment, his mocking mouth, and his eyes filled with utter amusement at your failing. Some astonishing eyes, you have to admit. Blue, like the oceans' mysterious depths and red, like an everlasting fire. And your bodyguard was handsome, extremely so. Wouldn't he be such an asshole? Maybe you would easily fall for him. But so, heaven forbid!
The first time you saw Rafayel's unique eyes close up was a few weeks into his employment, as you strolled along a little crafting market. The Bodyguard was three steps behind you as always, your second shadow on this bright sunny day. Your attention fell on some handcrafted silver jewelry. And as you were about to get closer to the stall, someone bumped heavily into you, throwing you off your balance. You stumbled and nearly fall as Rafayel was there in an instant, catching you from losing the ground.
"Gotcha!" he pressed out between teeth, already glaring into the surrounding area in search of more danger that might approach.
Strong arms embrace you and keeping you flush to his slender but no less muscular form. Your hands came to stop at remarkable abs, and your cheeks greeted his chest. A heavenly fragrance graced your nostrils; his scent you noticed. Rafayel smelled incredibly good.
As you looked up, you were utterly entranced by his sharp side profile, angled perfectly to be kissed by the afternoon sun. And then his gaze meets yours after some nerve-wracking seconds, punching the little breath you had out of your lungs. Rafayel was truly beautiful, and the duality of his eyes captured you in a helpless daze.
"Everything alright, princess? Did you get hurt?" His soft timbre breaks into your stupor, and you simply nod, not trusting your voice. You awaited a teasing comment or pushing you off him. But instead, his eyes, those damn ocean eyes, soften with unusual tenderness. Slim fingers brushed away a strand of hair that fell into your face, guiding it gently back behind your ear. The tips of his slender limbs grazed the hot curve, igniting some unwanted flames in your lower core.
"You're staring, ma petite -..." he whispered under his breath, the last word drowned in the buzzing sounds of the lively crafts market.
And that broke something inside you. A crack in your carefully honed armor breaks open, leaving you vulnerable to his attentive gaze. Heat flushed your cheek, your breath hitched, and you realize that this man means more trouble than you ever imagined.
After you gathered your wits, you released yourself from the proximity of his alluring body and hurried to get back into your usual dynamic. But the meaning of these last words haunted you for weeks, and you'd rather died than asking him. You wouldn't even if he was the last human being on earth!
