"You won't believe what happened to me today when I went to your college this morning. Besides getting some stupid comments. It just made me more glad I didn't apply there. Anyway, I bumped into some cute random guy. Of course. I'm literally the human embodiment of awkward." I start rambling as my cousin sits next to me in the couch.
"Doesn't someone ever tell you to talk less?"
"Yes, but do I look like I care? Exactly, dear cousin, not a bit."
"Jesus, Jade. Fine, who was the guy?"
"Oh, I'm not so sure. I didn't get his name."
"Are you sure you're my cousin?" he shakes his head disapprovingly "I should teach you some tricks."
"I'm not a dog, Ash. But, no thanks. What even did you want me to do? Ask him just like that?"
"That's usually something people do, yeah."
I roll my eyes.
"I just know he's blind."
"Jade, were you born with only half of your brain? A normal person would have started the conversation there. That's probably Calum Hood. He's on some of my classes."
"How would I know if it's that Calum Thing? I just told you I don't know his name."
"Jade, I really should teach you some things about boys." stupid Ashton mocks me while laughing.
"Who told you I'm into boys?" I decide to play. Ashton just chokes on his saliva, falling off the couch and I cover my mouth trying to stay serious, but have you ever heard my cousin laughing? It's contagious.
"Well, you said he was a cute boy. Besides I wouldn't take you as lesbian. That would be okay, though."
Then he smirks, which is the sign that some stupid thing is about to come out of his mouth.
"And it would definitely be interesting to watch."
"Ew, you're such a dirty, stupid pig. Besides that's fucking offensive." He just laughs while I insult him and throw decorative pillows to his face. That's literally the only thing they're for.
The doorbell rings, interrupting our one sided war.
"Please, favorite cousin, will you go there?" My stupid cousin and house sharer pouts and I roll my eyes.
I don't know why I still do what he asks.
I put some locks of my blondish hair behind my ear and go open the door.
"Hey, Lucy." my cousin's idiot best friend pats my back like I was a dog and comes in.
Ugh, I remember now why I hate boys so much. They're all jerks, and Michael is not an exception. Since he got my name wrong once, and thought I was named Lucy, he doesn't call me anything else, which annoys me profoundly. He also only comes here to turn Ashton into a videogames addict. More than he already is.
I wish I also had friends. Since I fell on my face in the first day of school, nobody would talk to me because they were too busy laughing. Okay, maybe I didn't fall just once, but still, I can't be the only one who's so clumsy. Look at Sailor Moon. Usagi is way more clumsy than me and she ended up with a pretty good life. After saving the world. Well, I'll just hold on to that hope since no one wants to befriend someone who isn't pretty enought just because she doesn't wear 2673676732 kilos of crayon on her face.
The bell rings again, and I already know who's on the other side of the door.
"Of course, here to complete the awful threesome?"
"I know you're happy to see me, don't cry so hard. And I know you'd love to join, but not today." the blonde guy winks at me and makes his way to the living room.
"Fuck you, Luke!" I scream, knowing that they're listening "You would be making me favour."
"I'm sure I would." he yells back and I groan.
Stupid cousin and stupid friends of his.
I hear Ashton slapping Luke and the doorbell rings one more time.
"Ashton, I think this is broken." I mumble "Ugh, I might as well become an official doorwoman."
I open the door just to find the boy from this morning standing there with a beautiful girl by his side. Of course he's not single.
"Hi, is Ashton home?" the girl speaks and I gulp nervously. A normal reaction for me while standing in front of people I don't know.
My cousin is coming off strong today. My house seems like DisneyLand on a sunday. Or any day of the week.
"Hum, yeah." I open the door a little bit more so they can come in. Of course Ash failed to mention that the guy I was bragging about was his friend.
"Jade?" The asian boy's voice makes me stop in my tracks. How does he remember my name just by my voice? Most people can't remember neither.
"Yeah, hey. I'm Ashton's cousin." I feel the girl's eyes burning in my face so I turn to her, lifting my eyebrow a bit.
"I'm glad you two know each other. Can you have him from now on? I'm kinda late to an appointment. Bye, Cal. Call me so I know when to pick you up." the also kinda asian girl turns around and we both stare at her for a while. I mean, I stare.
"Your girlfriend was in a rush." I try to break the ice, which somehow works because he starts laughing. He has an adorable laugh.
"That was Mali, she's my sister."
"Oh, of course." Thank God he can't see me blushing in embarassment. I'm a terrible person. "I'm sorry, come in."
He starts to walk and I don't know what to do.
"Hum, do you need help or something? I'm sorry, I'm not very good at speaking." I cringe mentally.
Jade Irwin, you shameful character.
"And I'm not very good at seeing." he jokes "So if you could just guide me to where Ash and the other boys are, that would be nice."
"Well, yeah. I guess I can do that."
He lifts up his hand in the air and I grab it. Oh my god. I never held anyone's hand.
"Hi, Calum. Here, I got you." As soon as we come into the living room, Ashton gets right up, so he can help his friend, taking his hand away from me.
"Why are you staring, cous? We have to make an English project, so unless you are here to help you can go play with your dolls or something."
"You fucker, I don't play with dolls. I draw them. Ugh, you guys really piss me off."
He looks at Calum, who had an amused look on his face and then he smirks to me.
I turn around to leave mumbling under my breath. "Right, an English project."
