Poor Jenna. Her life was (relatively) normal before "the outbreak", as the media insists on calling it. She had good grades, a wonderful boyfriend, and a mom who loved her. But now her life will never be even close to normal again...
The gun was heavy and cold in her hands as she pressed the tip to friend's head... No, not her friend anymore, but one of those... Things.
A tear rolled down her face, wiping a clean streak through all the dirt, dust, and grime she had encountered over the past few days.
She felt a hand on her shoulder, then heard Jax, her boyfriend speak to her quietly.
"Do it, Jenna," he coaxed. "You know she wanted you to."
"I know... That doesn't make it any easier."
"I know." He leaned down and kissed her softly on the lips. "But you have to do it. She will turn."
She whipped around and shoved him back. He stumbled, surprised, and fell to the ground.
"You think I don't know that?" she shouted, tears welling up in her eyes. "Of course she is going to turn! They always turn! So you can just shut up!"
Jax, still on the floor, knew to stay quiet and let her work through this rough task.
"I... I'm so sorry..." Jenna mumbled. "I just..." and she broke into tears.
Jax pushed himself up from the ground and gave her a big hug, holding her while she let the tears flow.
"I understand, and I'm sorry."
After a minute or two, Jenna stemmed the tide of tears and moved slowly back to her friend.
"Goodbye, Old Friend. Thank you for everything."
She moved the gun once more to her lifelong friend's head, and this time pulled the trigger.
