Chapter Seven

Cody ran through the dark cave with the soft glow of Tumalíer lighting her way slightly. She slipped on the wet floors and was ensnared in several thick webs but she pressed on. She could hear several shouts and the hiss of Shelob not too far in front of her. Soon, she saw a bright light at the end of the cave and ran faster towards it. Her heart pounded and she could see the blood pulsing in her vision.
When she was at the entrance she slid to a stop and hid behind a stone pillar. She watched as Sam fiercely fought off the giant spider with Frodo's short sword, Sting. A small, white bundle laid in the middle of the cleared space and looked like a mummified body.
"Frodo." she cried quietly. Just then an ear piercing scream cut through the air and Cody jerked her head back to the battle. Sam stood panting with his arms covered in green blood, the sword forgotten and the spider began to back away. When she came back at him he drew out Frodo's elven star and she instantly shrunk away back into her lair.
"Mr. Frodo?" she heard him ask the body. A small path led down to the clearing but was encircled by stone pillars so she could stay out of sight. Cody cautiously crept down the path so she could get closer to Frodo. When she had reached the middle she peered out from behind two of the columns but was not careful where she placed her hands. A small rock fell from between her fingers and she tried to grab it only to cause more rocks to fall. She instantly went back into hiding when Sam looked up. She was relieved, however, when he turned to Frodo one last time and then disappeared up a different path.

Sam heard the small rocks fall and shot his head up to see what had caused it. He figured it was either Gollum or Cody so he was not concerned. He then turned his attention back onto Frodo and his lifeless face.
"I'm so sorry Mr. Frodo." he whimpered, "I tried to tell you." and then he ran up a stone path for Sting began to glow a very faint blue.
When he reached the cave entrance he turned around for he could barely hear the sound of foot steps. He turned around and was enraged at the sight he saw; Cody ran over to his master from where she had been hiding and began to touch his body.

His eyes were still open and stared blankly at the dark, evil sky. They were glazed over and didn't hold the loving glint that they always carried. His face was deathly pail and was cold when Cody gently stroked his white cheek.
"Frodo." she said. She intended for the word to be a whisper, but her voice broke and became an octave higher. Before she could say another word she opened her mouth and her body was wracked in a silent sob. She looked around through teary eyes to see if anyone was around. She looked up in the direction of the tower and screamed, "I hate you! I hate you!" she then began to sob once again and held Frodo close to her body.
When she had recovered enough to speak she looked into Frodo's glassy eyes and began to sing.
"Your baby blues, so full, of, wonder,
Your curly cues, your contagious smile,
And as I watch, you start to grow up,
All I can do, is hold you tight, knowing,
"Clouds will rage and,
Storms will race in,
But you will be safe, in my arms,
Rains will pour down,
Waves will crash around,
But you will be safe, in my arms.
