Chapter Ten

"Hurry up! We're only a day behind them now!" Garza growled as Cody trailed behind. Three days had passed since they left the outpost and they had traveled none stop since then. While Garza stepped naturally on the rocks Cody's feet were blistered and cut from the razor sharp edges. She did not know how much longer until her feet became infected and she would not be able to travel at all.
"Wait here." Garza instructed as they came upon a small hill. Cody gratefully sat down and gingerly rubbed her sore and aching feet while Garza scouted the area. "Servant!" he hissed. Cody looked up and saw that he was motioning for her to climb up and join him. Shaking off her pack and gently setting it on the ground, as to make sure she didn't crush the lembas, she scurried up the hill and rested beside Garza.
"There they are." Garza growled and pointed towards a ledge several miles away from where they were positioned.
At first, Cody saw nothing, but more black rock and the red haze, but she slowly made out two figures near the ledge. One was sitting himself down while the other stood near the cliff and stared down into the abyss. 'Frodo! Sam!' As she continued to watch she saw Sam throw his collection of pots and pans into the valley below and make his way back to where Frodo was resting.
"They are setting up a camp right now." Garza spoke hurriedly, "If we move now we can reach them by night fall."
"No!" Cody cried, afraid of what the black orc may do to the hobbits, "I mean, no, wait until tomorrow. We'll camp here and then in the morning we'll go after them." Cody stared at the Uruk-Hai when he said nothing and when he was about to reject she said "I would do as the servant of the Black Lords says."
"Very well," he puffed and stalked down the hill, growling to himself as he did so.
Cody watched the black orc tread down the hill and when he had disappeared behind a boulder she laid on her stomach and watched Frodo and Sam set up camp. As the darkness dimmed even more she saw them huddle around a small fire and slowly drift into their dreams. A single tear slid down her face as she imagined Frodo's body besides hers once again, she could almost feel his warmth and almost smell his Shire clothes. 'I will see you soon,' she vowed as she closed her eyes, 'Nothing can keep us apart, not even Death itself.'
After sometime her eyes flashed open and she began to prepare herself for what she was about to do. She unsheathed her sword and inspected the condition of the blade for she had not used it in sometime. When she was satisfied she sheathed it and pulled out the grey piece of cloth she had kept in her trouser pocket. She held the fabric in her hands and kissed it before she tied it around her right index finger and carried on.
Slowly, she slunk to where she saw the Uruk-Hai and watched as his chest rose and fell with each breathe he took. When she was sure he was asleep she crept closer, drawing her sword, until she was right beside the mutant beast. She drew her sword above her head and stared into the reflection that was being caste onto the tip of her weapon as it dangled in front of her face. She took in a sharp intake of breathe before she plunged the sword down, but before she could move the orc's yellow eyes flashed open and he grabbed her ankle, pulling her to the ground. Her arms were spread out like wings and her sword was just mere inches away from her finger tips. Pain ripped through her arm as the Uruk-Hai stepped on the limb, crushing it almost to the point of breaking the bone as she tried to grab the blade.
"Frodo!" she screamed, letting out the word that came first came to her lips.
"You can scream all you want," Garza laughed as he fiddled with his own knife, "No one will come to your aid as I carve you away, piece by piece."
