You didn't expect to see him.
Not here. Not now. Not after five months of barely texting, of avoiding the old cafe you both loved, of pretending that letting go was easy.
And yet, there he was.
pedri, sitting at the corner table, head down over a book like nothing had changed, hair falling into his eyes.
you froze.
Your chest tightened.
The memories hit first, laughing here, sharing coffee, small touches that didn't need names, quiet moments that said more than words ever could.
He looked up.
And your heart stopped.
"Y/n..." he breathed, like your name was a secret he had kept locked up all this time.
"Hi" you said, voice barely steady.
He stood up slowly, unsure, hesitant. You noticed how tall he seemed, even after months apart. His eyes searched yours, the same warm, soft gaze that used to make everything feel okay.
"I uh- I didn't expect to see you here either," he admitted.
"I could say the same," you said, stepping closer without really thinking.
The cafe around you faded. The chatter, the music, even the clatter of cups.....it didn't exist, only him, only the way your chest felt like it could burst or stop entirely.
"I... I've missed this." he said finally, gesturing vaguely between the two of you. "Us."
Your throat tightened.
"Me too."
You paused, looking at him, really looking. He hadn't changed much maybe a little taller, a little more serious, but the way he looked at you was exactly the same.
"why did we...you know..." Your voice cracked a little.
"why did we let it end?"
pedri sighed, running a hand through his hair. "I was scared, scared of how much I felt, scared of losing focus, scared I'd screw it up."
You swallowed hard, heart aching. "I felt the same."
Silence fell heavy, but not bad It was the kind of silence that holds all the things left unsaid, all the things that time couldn't erase.
He finally smiled, small and soft. "so... five months later, and we're still standing here. Still... feeling it?"
You nodded. "Yeah. I don't know how, but I do."
For the first time in months, he reached out his fingers brushing yours lightly across the table. A tentative touch, but it spoke volumes.
"I don't want to fight it anymore," he whispered.
You leaned in slightly as your heart was racing "neither do I."
And maybe it was crazy, maybe it was messy, but in that moment, five months later, after everything it felt like coming home.
pedri smiled, just a little, before he leaned closer and when your foreheads touched, soft and careful, you realized something
some feelings don't fade.
they wait.
for the right moment.
for you.
for him.
