Your phone rang five minutes after he texted you.
You stared at the screen, heart doing somersaults.
GAVI CALLING...
You answered, trying to sound normal.
"hello?"
"You sound tired" he said, voice low and warm. "Did you take a nap?"
"No" you whispered. "I was thinking."
"About what?"
You hesitated.
Not you. Definitely not you. Maybe you. Mostly you.
"Stuff."
He laughed softly, like he already knew.
"Y/n?" he said suddenly.
"Yeah?"
"Come outside."
Your whole body froze.
"Wh- what? why?"
"Just trust me."
You scrambled off your bed nearly tripping over your own foot and rushed to the window.
A car. His car. Parked outside your house.
You ran downstairs and opened the door.
There he was with a hoodie on, hair messy, cheeks warm from the cold night air.
"y-you said you were going home," you stuttered.
"I did." He shoved his hands in his pockets. "But then I wanted to see you again."
Your heart actually hiccuped.

You walked with him down the quiet street, the only sound being your shoes on the pavement and his breathing next to yours.
"You shouldn't be out this late" you said.
"Then walk with me so I'm safe" he teased.
You rolled your eyes, but your cheeks burned.
He kept glancing at you then finally said
"You looked cute this morning."
"Oh my god, stop."
"I'm serious." he bumped your shoulder lightly.
"You were all sleepy and confused. I wanted to hug you."
Your breath caught.
"You barely know me," you whispered.
"I'm trying to fix that," he said his voice softer now.
As you crossed the small bridge near your street, he stopped walking.
You looked at him. "What?"
"Give me your hand."
Your heart sprinted.
"no" you said weakly.
"Why not?"
"Because" you whispered.
"It means something."
He stepped closer, eyes warm, voice lower
"It's supposed to mean something."
Slowly, completely giving up on pretending you weren't in love with him... you gave him your hand.
His fingers slid between yours like he'd been waiting all day.

You both stopped at the end of your street to the point where he had to go back to his car.
He didn't let go of your hand.
"y/n" he said softly, "can I take you somewhere tomorrow?"
"Like.....a date?"
He smirked. "Only if you want it to be."
Your stomach flipped so hard you almost fell.
"I want to," you whispered.
His thumb brushed over your hand slow, gentle, warm.
"Good." he said.
"Because I've been wanting to since this morning."
Your chest tightened.
He leaned in, lips brushing your cheek so lightly it felt like a secret.
"Goodnight, zombie."
You shoved him, flustered.
"Stop calling me that."
He just grinned walking backwards toward his car.
"See you tomorrow." he said, eyes on you the whole time.
You didn't even make it inside before smiling like an idiot.
