the bathroom was unusually quiet.

you sat on the closed toilet lid, the small white stick resting on the edge of the sink while the timer on your phone counted down.

Three minutes.

It had never felt so long.

raphinha had insisted on waiting with you, despite your protests.

"Amor, you don't have to stay in here."

He shook his head, sitting on the floor with his back against the bathtub. "I'm not leaving you alone."

Neither of you spoke after that.

The only sound was the ticking timer.

when it finally chimed, neither of you moved.

"you look," you whispered.

his eyes widened. "Me? No. You."

"I can't."

He let out a nervous laugh. "I can't either."

another few silent seconds passed before he slowly stood up.

his hand found yours.

"Whatever happens..."

He kissed your forehead.

"...we face it together."

you nodded. Together, you looked down.

Two pink lines.

Your brain froze.

"...raph."

He blinked.

Then blinked again.

"That's..."

He picked up the test like maybe holding it closer would magically change the result.

"...that's positive."

You stared at him before bursting into nervous laughter.

"I know what it means!"

"I just..." He looked back at the test. "...I wanted to make sure I wasn't imagining things."

The laughter quickly turned into tears.

"Oh my gosh..."

You covered your face.

"I'm pregnant."

the words sounded unreal.

raphinha immediately wrapped his arms around you.

"Hey...hey..."

He rubbed your back while trying very hard not to cry himself.

"We're okay."

You looked up at him. "You're crying."

"I'm not."

"You literally are."

"I have allergies."

"You've never had allergies."

"...they're new."

you laughed through your tears, making him laugh too.

after a few moments, he gently cupped your face.

"Can I tell you something?" You nodded.

"I'd be lying if I said I'm not scared."

"So am I."

"I'm terrified."

"Me too." He smiled softly.

"but when I look at you..."

he rested a hand over yours.

"...I know we'll figure it out."

your eyes filled with tears again.

"You really think we'll be good parents?"

"I don't think."

He smiled wider.

"I know."

He knelt in front of you before carefully placing his hand over your stomach, even though there wasn't a bump yet.

"Hello, little one." You giggled.

"They can't hear you yet."

"I don't care." He leaned closer anyway.

"I don't know if you're a boy or a girl..." He smiled.

"...but your mamá is already the strongest person I know."

Your heart melted.

"And your papá," you added, "is already talking to someone the size of a blueberry."

He gasped dramatically. "That's my child. Of course I'm going to talk to them."

You rolled your eyes affectionately.

"You are so dramatic."

"You love dramatic."

"I do."

He stood up, pulling you into another hug.

this one lasted much longer.

neither of you wanted to let go.

after a while, he whispered against your hair,

"We're going to have sleepless nights."

"Mhm."

"Dirty diapers."

"Mhm."

"Baby toys all over the house."

"Mhm."

"And tiny barcelona jerseys."

You looked up "already?"

"They need to support the right club."

"what if they choose another team? Like madrid."

he placed a hand over his heart dramatically.

"Please don't even joke about that."

you laughed so hard you had to wipe away fresh tears.

"I love you."

"I love you more."

He kissed your forehead one last time before looking back at the pregnancy test sitting on the sink.

A huge grin spread across his face.

"we're having a baby."

This time, saying it out loud made it feel real.

and for the first time that morning, the fear was replaced with something even stronger. Pure excitement.
