I collapsed on the ground, sobbing. I pulled Regina's lifeless body into my arms and let the sobs shake my body. "Regina, don't be gone! I was supposed to fix it!" I sobbed. "I'm so sorry I never told you I love you. I'm so sorry I never told you how I feel about you. I'm so sorry I couldn't stop the darkness. I'm so sorry. But, please! Don't leave me here! I need you! Henry needs you! I can't raise him alone. Please!" I screamed, tears falling on Regina's perfect face. "Emma, honey, it's too late. She's gone." I heard Snow say, quietly. "No! She's not gone!" I screamed. I leaned my forehead down on hers and nothing happened. A flashback came into my mind as I stared at her lifeless body.
*Flashback*
"Ms. Swan. To what do I owe this pleasure?" Regina asked as I walked into her office, little to no snarkiness in her tone. I smiled. "I brought lunch." I said. She leaned back in her desk chair and raised a perfectly sculpted eyebrow. "I know I love Granny's grilled cheese. But, I know you can't handle it. So, I got you a kale salad." I said and pulled the plastic container out of my bag. I handed it to her and she took it while squinting a little. I pulled out the grilled cheese and two bottled root beers. "Alright, Madame Mayor. You think you can handle these bottle caps? I thought they were twist off." I said and handed her a bottle. "Does it look like I can just pry them off with my teeth? Please. I'm a queen and a bit more refined." She said. I smiled and she smirked a little bit as she pulled a bottle opener out of her desk drawer. I sat down in a chair on the other side of her desk and she popped off the bottle cap, then set her bottle on the desk. She held out her hand and I handed her mine. She popped the cap, then handed it back. "So, how's your search going? You heard anything from him?" I asked. "No. But, I talked to 'Marian'. She's really my sister. She used a glamor to make him leave me, and then he ended up actually falling for her. So, I've given up on him ever coming back for me or me going to find him. Besides. I don't think he was my happy ending anyways. Sometimes our happy ending can be sitting right in front of us and we never even realize it until it's too late." She said and stared at me. I nodded. "I understand. But, the real world isn't about happy endings. It's about taking the life you have and fighting like hell to keep it." I said. She sighed and looked away. "How are things with Hook?" She asked. I furrowed my eyebrows. "Is that the first time you haven't called him a witty name?" I asked. She shrugged. "Regina, what's wrong?" I asked. "Nothing." She said. "You know I can always tell when you're lying." I said. She shrugged. "I don't want to talk about it right now." She said. I nodded and she bit her lip. "Uh.. Well, we're not getting along very well right now. We've been fighting a lot." I said. She frowned. "I'm sorry." She said. I shrugged. "It's like you said. Sometimes our happy ending can be sitting right in front of us and we never even realize it until it's too late." I said. She smiled a little. "Well, Emma, I hope you find your happy ending very soon." She said. I smiled. "I uh.. Yeah. You." I said. She furrowed her eyebrows. "I mean, you too." I said. She nodded and I smiled a little.I stared at the lifeless body in my arms as my tears continued to fall. "Regina please." I said, my voice raspy. "I.. I love you." I said and leaned down, kissing her one more time. I pulled away and stared at the dead brunette in my arms. You failed, Swan. You weren't able to keep Hook from killing her. How dare you call yourself a savior when you can't even save your true love? One of my tears fell down onto Regina's cheek, but I couldn't stop the tears. "E-Emma. You're crying on me." I heard a raspy voice. I looked down, shocked and she smiled weakly. "I was wondering what was taking so long." She said. I smiled, tears falling from my eyes. "Fuck. I love you." I whispered. She smiled. "I love you too, Swan. Now kiss me." she said and I did exactly as told. "Never scare me like that again." I mumbled against her lips. "Never." She mumbled and continued kissing me. I'll never lose her again.
