“Shit!” Zoey cussed as some kid spilled his drink all over her jeans “Argh damnit I just bought these” she muttered to herself.

“Sorry lady” she looked down to realize he was eight, but he looked five. With dirt on his shoes, his hair was messy and there was a tear in his shirt. Zoey felt bad for the kid. “Here” she started as she groped around her purse for a five dollar bill “Go buy yourself some cotton candy”

“Hey thanks!” he grinned and ran off. She looked down at the deep stain on her jeans and sighed. She fished out a napkin from her purse and wiped it off The stain however, didn’t leave and looked like it was gonna be permanent “I’ll throw these out tomorrow” she muttered to herself. She looked up to see someone watching her. His gaze was hard to escape. Standing a few feet away leaning on a pole, he had his hands in his pockets and a smirk on his face. Shifting her gaze elsewhere and switching the weight on her legs she felt uncomfortable. “Weirdo” she said under her breath and started to walk off in time to see him turn his back and walk off in the opposite direction

Street fair. Typical suburban thing to do right? Zoey thought so too. Living in Arizona meant that a street fair was the most social it was ever going to get. But she was a photographer and it was the perfect place to snap a few good ones. Walking around with her camera in hand she spotted the same boy that was responsible for the stain on her jeans “Hey kid, smile for the camera” she brought her camera up to her face and looked through the lens and knelt so she was on the same eye level as the boy. He grinned, revealing the gap between his teeth, Zoey smiled behind the camera and snapped the shot. She laughed and waved at him when he ran off to join his friends. Her smile faded when she realized that guy was watching her.. again. “What the hell?” she was about to walk over to him when she realized that the Ferris wheel was up and running. She turned to take a picture When she put her camera down, the guy was gone.

“My feet. They hurt” Zoey was walking home with her best friend Ruth, a fellow photographer. Ruth laughed “Im not surprised, how many pictures did you end up taking?” she turned and pulled out Zoeys camera “Woah, a hundred and fifty two?”

“It’s a street fair Ruth, I’m actually surprised I couldn’t get more” Zoey answered pulling her camera from Ruths hands and crossing the strap over her shoulder. They were walking home after the fair. They were roommates both attending the same university. “Hey you know what would be really fun right now?” Ruth said teasingly looking at Zoey with a smile

“Uh, a bed? A shower?” Zoey answered sarcastically, rolling her eyes. She knew where this was going. Ruth Bennett, party animal extraordinaire Any minute now

“No silly! A party, dancing, boys” She winked at Zoey and smiled. When Zoey was still not convinced she pulled on her arm and whined “Come on! I don’t have anyone else to go with and that hot guy John asked me to meet him there”
