“Hey Zoey, uh it’s me Garrett. Look I don’t know what just happened but um uh look just uh we need to talk. Im coming over now”

“Delete” Zoey said without a doubt

“Hi Zoey. This is Caleb Turman and I just wanted to know if you were still interested in being the official photographer for this fall tour. Just, let me know.”

Zoey started at the answering machine for about an hour contemplating what she should do.

“Fuck it” she said hitting the delete button

--

“Ohmygod what is that noise?!” Zoey wasn’t sure if she was saying any of this out loud or if it was all in her head. One this she was sure was that some idiot was pounding on her door in the morning. She buried herself in her pillow hoping to drown out the noise.

“RUTH” she yelled. She wasn’t sure if Ruth had gotten home but she was yelling anyway.

The knocking just wouldn’t stop, Zoeys head was pounding. It was as if she was suffering a massive hangover even though she hadn’t drunk.

“I’M COMING” she shouted, she just wanted the noise to stop. She made her way to the door, eyes closed the whole time.

Do you know what time it is?” Zoey mumbled opening the door.

“Hi. Im Caleb” he said eyeing her up and down and grinning

It’s really funny. You know that moment when you look ridiculous? Like not even presentable. Like actually ridiculous. And because it’s your lucky day there’s a completely attractive boy standing in front of you smiling but you can’t even move because it all feels like a bad joke

“It’s one in the afternoon” he said, still grinning

Zoey’s head turned so fast to look at the time her head started spinning

“Shit!”  Before she could stop herself she was flying across the room, over the couch and into her room, slamming the door behind her

“Um. Yeah okay Ill just wait here..” she heard his voice trail off

In a few minutes Zoey was running out of her room. She had showered, put on a pair of jeans and a t shirt in record time. She ran past Caleb in search of her boots. When she found them she hoped around trying to fit them on whilst looking for her bag and keys

“Shit” she said as she lost her balance momentarily, she felt a pair of hands hold her sides “Woah hold on there” They were Calebs. Of course they were. For a second she studied him. He didn’t take his hands off her

“Godamnit” Zoey said under her breath as she noticed the time again “Look can we talk about this later? Im about two hours late for something really important”

“I’m sorry this really can’t wait” he apologized

“Um okay. Okay yeah walk me down” Zoey said grabbing her keys and pulling Caleb out

“Sorry about the hurry but we’re kind of a rush. Kennedy told me you were studying Photography at the university and that you were interested in being the official photographer for this tour” he started as they rushed down the stair way and onto the street

Zoey only had heard half of what he had to say, she was too busy speed walking and worrying about the time

“I know this is really last minute but our usual photographer is in New York and it would be huge if you could come down”

“Could you uh wait for me right here? I mean I’ll only take two seconds” she turned to face him half hoping he wouldn’t stay

“Sure”

“Great”

--

“You sure you wanna do this? Caleb asked

“Well I can’t back out now can I” Zoey said, it was true. She had offered to be their official photographer and it was too late to back out. Not that she wanted to either. Caleb seemed.. nice

“Thanks again” he said smiling “Hey you want some lunch? Or breakfast in your case”

She laughed “Um, I think I gotta be somewhere” she was thinking of Garrett obviously. Obviously.

“You think?” he persisted

Zoey laughed again. “Why don’t I call him and find out” she suggested. If Caleb was disappointed that it was a guy she had plans with he didn’t show it

Taking out her phone she dialed Garretts number and waited for him to answer. What she was expecting was his lazy voice probably groggy from having just gotten up. Yeah that seems about right. What she got was something different entirely. On the other side of the call was the sound of a girls voice, high pitched and wide awake.

“Hello?”

Dear God Im going to throw up

Zoey knew that voice. She hadn’t heard it before but she knew that voice.
