Bella P.O.V
I spent my last days in Arizona with Mrs. Newton's family. Thanksgiving was a nightmare, her entire family came to her house. It was all family bounding, hugs and love. It was a pain in the ass sitting next to Mike and being called his girlfriend, only because Mrs. Newton couldn't keep her mouth shut and say that her little boy had a crush on me as long as she can remember.
Well, it was hard not to throw my knife at her. James came along after the dinner, explained what was going to happen to me to the Newton couple. Of course, Mrs. Newton offered their home to me, but thank God James said the judge had already made a decision. I couldn't take two years with this freak family.
Today is the day. Today I leave to Forks, Washington. James is flying with me, giving me up to the family and I won't see him in the following two weeks. Great. Now he was my partner in crime, nothing serious but I need him in order to get my money.
I stand at the door with Claire's arms wrapped tightly around me, very tight. I have to hold back the urge to push her away and get over it, but I can't. She places small kisses with her bright red lip stick all over my face, her mascara running down her cheeks along with her tears. Why the hell is she crying? I ask myself. When she pulls away she pulls my hair away from my face.
"Sweetie," she sobs, "you know you'll always have a home here. You can come and visit whenever you want, okay."
Yeah, that's gonna happen. "Thank you so much for everything, Claire." I take her hands in mine. "I can't thank you enough for everything you've done for me."
She smiles, wiping the tears from my cheeks. "I know your mother would've done the same for us and our boy," she says.
Right, you go ahead and think that. Like the bitch of my mother would take in your son. I nod, giving her a sad smile. I look over her shoulder where Mike and his father stand. Marcus never actually liked me, I know that. He always looked at me suspiciously, perhaps he knew my real intentions, but who cares? It's not like he can do anything about it.
"Thank you," I say to both of them. I wipe the tears from my cheeks, taking a deep breath and smile at them. "Off I go," I say, grabbing my bag. James has already made sure to put all my belongings in the car. "Thank you, again," I say one last time before turning away.
I roll my eyes at James, who acts so kind and understanding. He gives the Newtons a nod before opening the door of his car for me. As he walks around the car, I wave goodbye with a sad smile one last time to the freak family.
"You know, you could live a hundred lifes and never deserve the love these people gave you," he says when he starts the car.
I roll my eyes at him. "Trust me, James, I stopped caring about other people the moment my mother stopped caring about me."
He shighs, driving down the street. "Still, aren't you a bit grateful for what they did for you?" He asks.
Why are we talking about this now? I narrow my eyes at him. "I said thanks," I say, making it sound so obvious.
"Actually meaning it?" He asks, again. He doesn't look very happy, what's this all about?
"Why are you asking me this?" I cross my arms over my chest. "As long as I can remember, you never gave a shit if I was grateful or felt something at all."
He nods. "I know, Bella, but that family cared about you, a lot of people did things for you in order to help you, and you never feel grateful towards them. Instead you give them your back, or may I say, stab them in the back."
"Because they don't know who I am, why do you think I haven't done the same to you?" I say, laying back on the seat. This conversation is getting on my nervous.
