Body Over Flowers

The mirrored glass reflects a frequent sight,
A form displayed for eyes I cannot see,
More often than a bloom in pure delight,
A fragile bloom the wishes not to be.

Yet roses sweet, the velvet soft design,
I covet them with longing deep inside,
While this poor shell, this frame that isn't mine,
Is left exposed where vanity can hide.

A bitter jest the turning heavens keep,
To trade the petal for the flesh I loathe,
While dormant beauty lies in silent sleep,
Beneath the fabric and binding cloth.

So let the petals fall where they may rest,
My body waits, unlovely and unblessed.
