I trusted you

I trusted you, my footing sure and deep,
Believing in the strength you did possess.
Upon your rise my weary soul could sleep,
A haven found in your gentle caress.
But cracks appeared where solid ground had been,
A fault line hidden through my hopeful gaze.
The earth gave away, a devastating scene,
And shattered trust obscured in a hazy maze.
I fell so hard, the impact stole my breath,
A precipice where joy had bloomed before.
Now echos ring with whispers of my death,
Of innocent loss, and nothing to restore.
You were the step I trusted, turned to pain,
The unseen fall in sunshine and in rain.
