"Where is she?!"
I recognized Finn's voice the minute we entered the house. I shared a look with my twin. We dashed to the stairs together. Finn's yell jolted me from my bed. I hurried into the hall.
"What do you mean? Maybe she's downstairs," Caspian said. Confusion filled me. Last we heard, Finn was missing, taken by Malum. Who was the girl they were talking about?
"She feels far away," Peter said. I sped up. Not only was there a mystery girl, but they could feel her. My mind raced. I didn't even have a theory for what was going on.
"I feel it too," Finn added just as we turned the corner into the hall. They were standing near the guest bedroom. My eyes trained on Finn. I scanned every inch of him. I let out a sigh of relief, not seeing any apparent injuries.
"You're okay," Kent stated. I glared them down.
"A message saying so would have been nice." Caspian winced.
"I forgot to send it," he admitted, rubbing the back of his neck. He straightened and pointed at them. "You should be happy that's the only thing I forgot. You are never leaving me in charge again. I can't take it. I found a gray hair last night, gray!"
I rolled his eyes while Kent focused in the guest room. I noticed Peter fidgeting, but I had bigger fish to fry. I strode right up to Finn.
"How the hell did some Malum catch you?" I asked, glaring at Finn.
"I forgot my sabers," he admitted in a small voice. He straightened and motioned to the room. "But that's not the issue here."
"Extra hour of endurance training for the next two weeks," Kent told Finn. I agreed, and expected Finn to argue or complain, but he didn't.
"Fine," Finn said. "Where the hell did she go?"
"Do we have a visitor?" I asked, glancing between the guest room and Finn.
"Technically, yes," Peter replied, following Finn into the room.
The window was wide open, curtains blowing in the morning breeze. There was an empty plate sitting on the window bench. The bed looked slept in. I glimpsed a towel hanging by the shower as Finn headed into the bathroom. He walked out with a disappointed look on his face. The others entered after us. My twin tilted his head to the side, his eyes becoming unfocused. I knew he was listening. I followed suit.
"There's no one in this house but us," Kent said after a moment. He was correct. I counted every heartbeat. There wasn't an extra.
"Was she taken?" Peter asked, horror filling his eyes.
"She ran," Zeke stated.
"She wouldn't do that," Peter said, but his words were weak. I could see the doubt in his eyes.
"Who the hell are you talking about?" I snapped. I needed information. I needed to know what was happening. If I didn't, I couldn't help. Finn took a deep breath before explaining.
"Long story short, I got captured by some Malum. Met a Probus who knows absolutely nothing about what she is. We convinced her to come back here after the others rescued us, but now she's gone." He blurted, the panic apparent in his words.
"You forgot the part where you and Peter touched her and got Affinitas markings," Isaac said, appearing in the doorway. His words flowed straight into a yawn.
I stared at them, my mouth falling open. Shaking my head, I stepped forward and pulled Finn's shirt down. In shock, I took in the black marking on his neck. Immediately, I turned to Peter and did the same. Identical impossible marks.
