All I could do was worry and think, which only made me worry more.  What if she didn't like me at all?  what would i do then?  Why did I even care about this?  I didn't know the answer myself, but I did know that something was different about me.  My mid had diverted back to the form of a lovesick twelve year old, and while the distraction from survival in this hellish land was welcome, it gave me more questions than relief.  The thing that bothered me most about my thoughts was the fact that I couldn't handle the thought of her rejecting me.  I was so confused and had never been this worried about something that had so little effect on my survival.

My thoughts were interrupted by a blood-curdling scream and a hearty crash.  I knew who it was instantly.  I stood up quickly, knocking the table over and sprinted to the door.  I ignored the flaming pain running along my side and up my back and chest.  I had much more important things to worry about now.  As I busted through the door, I was able to see the side of the smoke house and noticed that one of the beams across the smoke house wall had broke.  I could see Crystal's shoulder on the ground.  At the sight of her, I ran faster and pushed my body to its limits for the one hundred yard dash to her side.  As I got there, I noticed that she was not hurt but was looking at me.  As she looked at me, her eyes filled with fear and she started to cry.

I scanned the area for danger and instead found Fang standing next to Crystal with a large rabbit in her mouth.  I looked at Fang and instantly knew what had happened.

"There's no need to cry, Crystal." I whispered, brushing her cheek with the back of my hand.

I realized what had her looking so afraid when I started to stand up.  When I stood up, I heard a second scream coming from Crystal and felt my head begin to swim before I saw a large red puddle on the ground where I had been crouching seconds before.  I had ripped all of the cuts back open.  As I fully came to terms with what was happening, my vision started fading into black.  The last thing I saw was the packed earth rushing up to meet me.

I woke up sore, exhausted and confused in my bed.  I had no recollection of what had happened after I fell and,  an especially concerning thought, had no idea how I had got back to the bed.
