When I hear my phone go off i shoot up immediately. It has to be Abbey. I search through my blankets but i cant find where i put my phone. I start to freak out. My phone buzzes again and I see it light up on the floor across the room. I crawl over to it as fast, but as quietly, as i can. Jim is still sleeping. When i look at the screen i get excited like the first time i'd went to Crazy Town, an amazingly awesome amusement park. Abbey was still alive. I had something to hope for.
MESSAGE TO: Abbey
SUBJECT: Jim
MESSAGE:
Abbey, words cannot explain how much I miss you. I'm so glad to hear you guys didn't just leave me. I was so scared. I still am. Why can't you guys come back? But the only good thing is that Jim is alive. He was just sitting on his couch like a dumbass. We're about to go out to see if we can find any living families. So yeah. I hope you respond!
MESSAGE SENT
Knowing they didn't just leave me made me hate them just a little less. I start to think about all the memory's me and Abbey had. We were the closest in age so we were really tight. Abbey has always been there for me when i was down and now that she is not here I don't know what to do. On the bright side she is responding.
I figure it's too late now to go back to sleep so I go downstairs to make coffee. After I make my cup, I take it upstairs and start to look through pictures on my phone. Hearing gunshots scared me, mainly because there hasn't been a person around in a minute. I look out my window to see Michael Weher. Michael Weher, the kid i've had a crush on since first grade, in my yard, but bashing in the head of a Crazy. I immediately start climbing out my window and run over just in time to drive a knife into a Crazy before it bit Michael. Out of breath Michael turns around and looks at me confused. "Shit, I've almost died many times but that was the closest I've come, thanks man" he says in between pants. His heavy breathy is so...hot.
"Oh yeah, you looked like you were in trouble" I said awkwardly. He caught his breath and looked around, "So is this your house? I kinda saw you leap out of your window like you've done it a thousand times." I laughed, not because it was funny, but because it was true. I've always climbed out of my window, to impress, to sneak out, many times. I stop laughing because I realize i'm the only one, "Yeah, I live here. How did you end up over here?" Michael lives on the north side where all the preps live. I live on the west side where all the semi preps live. I mean I wouldn't say i'm unpopular, I just wouldn't say i'm as popular as Michael is.
"Well my parents kinda left me last night to go on a stupid fucking date and never came home. Then my house got swarmed by these things. Decided I'd take a walk ended up over. Say, we have chem together huh?" I tried to reply swiftly, maybe a little to swiftly, "Yeah. Algebra, chem, PE, history." I realized I fucked up by the surprised expression on his face. "Oh. I've only seen you in chem. Ha." Silence fills the air for about five seconds. "So you want to come in? I have food and other shit" I add in the break it. I could tell he was contemplating by the stares he was giving the ground, "Um, yeah sure why not? I don't really have to be anywhere so." He's so cute. It gives me chills.
I show him how to climb up into my window and as we get in and stand up Jim is pointing a gun. "Woah Jim, chill" I say quickly before we get our brains blown out. "How many times is ya gonna scare me like that little lady?" Michael's expression showed fear. "Sorry, I woke up to gunshots. Um, Jim this is Michael, a friend from school. Michael this is Jim, he's like an uncle." So awkward. "Michael, why don't we go eat something" I ask him. "Yeah, that would be great" he replied. That would be great. Omigod. He is perfect.
Michael and I are eating sandwiches when we hear the pounding on the door. I walk over and peek out of the peep hole. A man, not a Crazy, is standing at my door. I can't really open the door so I go upstairs and climb out the window. I walk up behind him and startle him. He turns around and hits me in the head. All I see now is darkness. When I come back into consciousness Michael is standing above me. What a perfect sight to wake up to. "Hey, Alyssa. Can you hear me?" Yes you perfect angle. "Um, yeah."
The man that hit me and Jim are also standing above me. I can already hear my heart in my head. "I'm so sorry. I thought you were one of those things" the man says shakily now seeing Jim glaring at him. "Crazies" I say quietly. "What?" the man asks me confused. "I call them Crazies. How do you not have a name for them already? Haven't you come into contact with some already?" hit me with a stick, I deserve to be snappy. "N..no. Well not r..really. I did once. My wife and my son. When I got home from work they-" I interrupted quickly, "No it's fine." I didn't really want to hear more depressing things about people losing their families. God, this whole stick thing really put me in a bad mood. Glad Michael was here to make up for it.
