All I see is darkness. It's hot and humid. I look over and see Alex, still passed out, lying next to me. I start to panic. "Alex? Alex!" I yell while shaking her. She coughs a little but doesn't get up. The only thing I can remember is the man and the woman grabbing us from the house we were resting in. We're in a small, shed-like room. The door opens and a kind looking woman walks into the room.
"Hey sweetheart, look we're not gonna hurt you. We're trying to save people. Now I need to know if you know where anyone else is staying" the woman asks in a kind tone of voice. "I..um I don't know. We were just passing through. I'm trying to find my sister" I reply back scared. The woman puts a finger to her lips, "And how were you going to find this sister? Is she staying somewhere?" "Yeah, in our house. The rest of my family got rushes out by military and wouldn't let us go back for her" I start crying. "No need to cry it will all be okay. We just need to know where this house is" the woman replies with only half-ass empathy. "It..it's in Edgewater Estates" I reply faintly. The woman sighs with frustration, "Okay. You're going to come with us. We need help finding it."
That was it. I didn't really know what was happening but I knew it wasn't good. It took me some time to realize that we were in the middle of nowhere and at least a two hour drive to my house. The woman did not talk to me nor did the man who looked mean but when we were walking to the car he told me he was sorry for all of this. I feared for Alex who was sitting next to me quietly in the backseat, who didn't know anything that was going on because I couldn't tell her. The woman wasn't as kind as she looks. The man wasn't as mean as he looks.
Before sundown, we stopped at an old motel and kicked in one of the doors. Me and Alex were locked in one room, the woman and the man were in the room right next door. "Why do we have to do this? They're just kids" I overhear coming from the man. "Sid, hon, you know why. Do you want to live or not? We have to get as much supplies as possible. Once they're all dead it won't matter right? They're gonna die anyway, and besides we've done this before! Get your head out of our ass Sid!"
Hearing this made me sick to my stomach. I'm taking them to kill my sister, I thought. "Alex! Wake up. We have to find a way out of here quick" I say swiftly. "How?" she responds quietly. I look around the room, "Here. We'll climb out the window and sneak around to the front and make a run for it." I run over to the window and try to open it, it's jammed. I walk over to the air vent and get it off. I start crawling into it and realize it goes through. I crawl out and grab Alex. As we're about to crawl into the vent the door opens. "What's with all the run-" she stops mid sentence and I see the fury in her eyes. "What do you think you're doing?" she says grabbing and pulling me to the center of the room. The woman grabs me by my shirt and locks me in the motel bathroom. I hear Alex scream so I start pounding on the door. "Shut up! You'll only make it worse!" the woman yells at me. "Krista stop! Stop! She's just a child!" I hear Sid yell. A gunshot rings in my ears and then there is silence. "Alex!" I yell crying.
