I woke up early the very next day. The sun was just peeking through the river, and my eyes widened. It looked so pretty. I wanted to paint it, but I forgot to bring my paints. I got dressed and went outside.
Soon, Rocket, Blue and Fan woke up. "Morning, Chip," Blue greeted sleepily. "Morning," I echoed as I caught some fish for breakfast. "I'll start a fire so you can cook the fish," Fan decided as he got some wood and coal. We ate the fish, and just as I was cooking another one, Kaylz, Chad, Travis and Deli woke up to see what smelled like smoke.
Just as I set the second fish down, Deli sniffed my leg, then she saw the fish and took a huge bite. "Um..." Kaylz mumbled. "I'm not eating that if its covered in cat spit." Everyone looked at Kaylz and then nodded at me. "Ok, we'll eat later," I sighed, somewhat annoyed that my friends were picky eaters. "But I better not hear any of you saying, 'I'm hungry!' while we're walking, because we're not gonna stop until I find something else. Plus, breakfast is the most important meal of the day."
We were just about to start walking when Rocket and I heard something running by. Everyone froze. "What was that?" Rocket whispered. "Obviously we've been-" Just as she was about to finish, Travis shushed her. I pulled out my sword and held it out as if it were a shield. "Don't move," I whispered. That was when I heard the noise again, coming from the tall trees in the forest nearby. It sounded like bones rattling. Skeletons?
"Lets investigate," Blue suggested. Rocket and I nodded and slowly crept into the forest. The noise came again, and I figured out that it was coming from two skeletons. Rocket and I pulled out our bows, shot the skeletons and sprinted away before they could attack. "Hurry, pack up and lets go!" I ordered quietly as I took the tent down as quickly as I could. Then, we all sprinted away.
Pretty soon, we ran into the wolf we had met yesterday. "Its me again. I killed the skeletons for you," he reported. "Umm...thanks," Rocket thanked as I saw curiosity form in her eyes. "How long have you been following us for?" Fan asked. "For a long time," the wolf replied. "I even slept behind your tent last night, and you didn't notice. I hope you don't mind if I join you on your quest to save Minetopia." "How did you know we were doing that?" I asked, feeling suspicious. "I saw you in your window yesterday morning, watching the news," the wolf answered again.
I shrugged. "I guess its okay, but don't cause trouble." I agreed, then saw Fan look at the wolf with an evil smile. "Cause if you do..." The former threatened teasingly as he licked his lips. Fans joke only made the wolf roll his eyes. "TSK, grow up..." the annoyed animal commented.
We started walking, the wolf following. Everyone was fine with him coming but Deli. She frowned at him, then hissed and tried to scratch him. "Don't try to scratch me, young lady," he growled. "I am bigger than you, and can hurt you just as bad." Deli rolled her eyes, then hissed again. "Deli, stop it, please," Chad ordered as I scooped her up and put her in my backpack. After that, all was quiet until Blue started humming.
"What's your name, by any chance?" Travis asked the wolf after we ate lunch. "My name is Firefang," the wolf replied firmly. "Weird name," I commented. "But it's kinda cool in a way."
We stopped when we got to a huge gate, guarded by 2 witches, the left one with a black bat and the right one with a white bat. "Name?" asked the left witch. "Species?" asked the right witch. "Um... My name's Chip and I'm a blue fox-human hybrid," I mumbled. "Sorry," the left witch insincerely apologized. "But boss says we can't let you guys in." "Why not?" Rocket asked. "Because," answered the right witch. "This gate leads to Monster village, and only monsters can enter." "And you're not a monster," said the left witch. "So leave," ordered the right witch. Fan and I frowned at them, angry that we couldn't be let in.
"Open the gates!" Kaylz snapped. "Or we're gonna open them ourselves!" The witches got mad, and the bats angrily squeaked at us. "The answer is no, now leave," one of the witches repeated. "We're not leaving!" Chad shouted. "You just wait and see!" He ran up to the gate and climbed the bars. The witches ran out of their offices to try and get Chad down, so Rocket and I ran in. We each found and pushed a button that would open the gate. It opened, then all of us ran through. Well, almost everyone. Deli tripped and the gate closed before she could get through. But thankfully she was small enough to fit through the bars on the gate, so she jumped through. I scooped her up in my arms, then raced away before the witches could call their boss about the problem.
