Chapter 3: Azarathian's Pity

"We need to wake him up, Rachel." Luna said to me for the fourteenth time.

I looked down at him, seeing him shake badly during his sleep. At least, he's been able to sleep. All I could do was sit by him and think about everything that's happen so far. The Titans, Erik's mother, the Colossal Titan and the Armored Titan. Everything. I looked back to Luna, "Could you go see if they're passing out rations and get some for Erik and I? I'll wake him up."

Luna nodded and instantly went out of the small building we all got situated in. I looked down to Erik again, he was mumbling tiny words and phrases, but I couldn't decipher it at all. I gently started to shake him by his shoulder. His mumbles turned into words, "...it! Ever since...crazy..."

"Come on, Erik. Get up!" I said shaking him with a little more force. Pemma had told me those words, just yesterday morning. And Arella... Arella was also there yesterday. Not anymore.

"Rach? Why are you crying?" Erik said rubbing his eyes and yawning. He looked at me with a confused look spreading across his face.

I quickly wiped at my eyes, making them dry and mustered the most even voice I could come up with, "It's nothing, Erik. Were you having a nightmare?"

Erik widened his eyes and nodded softly, "Yeah, but I can't quite remember it. I feel as if I had seen Dad."

I looked down, "That's impossible. Your father is in Wall Bulvo right now."

"Yeah, you're right. Where's Luna and Pemma?" He asked seeing that we were the only ones there.

"Pemma went out. Luna went to get breakfast. Come on, we should go see her." I said standing and extending a hand to him. He took it and I hauled him up.

When we reached outside, Erik seemed surprised of all the people surrounding us. And of the place we were stationed in. We were currently in the Dasir District. This district served as the outer gate of Wall Canos. Wall Azar and it's interior was no doubt over flooded with crawling Titans. And Higata, of course was the first district to fall. Who knew about District Fosla. 

I stayed quiet while Erik took in the situation. He knew it wasn't the best, but for now it'll have to do. We have no other choice. This is all we have now. 

Protect him... That's all I have to do. For Mrs. Sato... 

"Guys! Good thing you got up when you did." Luna said as she came up running towards us. Breadsticks in her arms. "Here, Pemma got this when she said she had children to feed and told me to bring to you." She gave each of us one breadstick.

"Tcsh." An AP sneered as he passed us.

Erik looked after him with a hard glare, "What's his problem?"

Luna looked down as she said what she knew, "Well, he's probably hungry. There was food shortage here before we all got here. And I imagine that quadrupled when we got here."

Erik continued to stare at that AP and seemed to get angrier with each passing second. I assumed that he was hearing something he didn't like.

Suddenly, he shoved the breadstick at me and marched over to the AP. He stood there for a second before he kicked the AP's leg.

"Erik!" I scolded. Luna and I both went up to him as the AP started pummeling him. The AP shoved him back and he fell, I kneeled by his side and checked for any serious injuries, but was on guard incase that AP decided to hit him again.

"...mean it! He's just scared." Luna tried to reason with him.

"You! You've never seen one! How do you have any right to judge us?" Erik shouted at him.

The AP looked conflicted, he didn't know whether to continue hitting Erik or to leave him alone by that statement.

"You little piece of shits." The AP shoved Luna aside, throwing her to the ground. And he continued towards Erik.

Protect him!

Before I knew what I was doing, I felt a very heavy hand smack me on my left cheek. It was so heavy that my head spun and I had to spit out the metallic tasting blood out of my mouth.

"Don't interfere, little girl!" The AP shouted at me as he tried to get to Erik.

"You won't hurt him, do you understand? Get away before I hurt you." I scowled at him. Looking straight into his eyes. I could feel my hatred rising and without a doubt I knew he felt it too.

He straighten and huffed, "This'll teach you to speak to a official that way. Next time, I  won't go so easy." Then he left, spitting on the ground beside me.

People around us were staring. In awe, in distaste, in disgust. I went over to Luna and helped her up, but she said she could stand up on her own. We both went over to Erik and I hauled him up and dragged him back to the small building we had just exited. I threw Erik to the ground, furious with him. "Never pull off another trick like that, do you understand?"

"You aren't my mother! Leave me alone, Rachel!" Erik yelled back at me.

"Both of you, stop! This isn't the time to be fighting. We have to-"

"Shut up, Luna! You don't get it! We're caged up in these walls because we don't take action and fight the Titans like we're supposed to. And we never will when there are AP's who are cowards and can't even benefit to humanity's survival. Cowards like you!"

I couldn't allow Luna to be shouted at like that, I swiftly punched him, sending him to the ground. "Erik, you don't get it." He looked up at me with tears welling up in his eyes. "We are the cowards right now. We can't of anything. We're parasite to these people."

"Then I'm not going to accept a damn thing they try to give us." Erik said still trying to defy everything.

I reached into my pocket and walked over to him. I shoved an end of the breadstick into his mouth, not allowing him to move, "Eat, you idiot. Your Mom wouldn't want this. I promised her I wouldn't let you do this, Erik. Eat."

He looked surprised as I continued to shove the breadstick into his mouth. Then he looked up to me and started to cry. I took out the breadstick and held it up to Luna to hold as I kneeled down and hugged him tightly. "Stop being an idiot, Erik. Please, think before you do something." I felt my own tears start to fall as I held onto him.

He embraced me with full force, maybe even more tightly. "I'm sorry. You got hit because of me. I'm sorry, Rach."

"Just stop being an idiot, please."
