8. Back Home

Brittany's POV

"Damn, this is so weird." I muttered to myself as I drove through the streets. And it was weird, being I was back in North Carolina, during the MLB season. Madison and I always came back to North Carolina during the offseason, but with everything that has happened in my life recently, I decided to come live in NC again.

I still owned the house from my childhood and that's where I planned to live, even with all the memories that came with it. Nobody knew where I was, and I was praying it would stay that way. As I pulled up to the house, I smiled.

The house was exactly the same way I had left it, ensuring me no one had broken in. I placed my bags in my room, then turned on the air conditioner to cool the house down. My phone went off and I checked it to see a text from Madison.

From: Maddy
I know Im the last person you want to talk to, but just read this message. Yeah, I screwed up and Im sorry for that. Baseball took over me and you tried to stop it but it didn't work. Hunter told me you visited yesterday. I wish I could have seen you so I could apologize, but I guess this text will have to do. If you never speak to me again, just know Im sorry, I miss you and that I will always love you Bri.

Turning my phone off, I set it down before walking outside. I sat down in the porch swing and relaxed. "Hey, you better not be asleep!" Someone shouts, causing me to jump. Opening my eyes, I see Sam standing there. "What are you doing here?" She laughs as if it was a stupid question. "When Kevin and I get texts from Buster saying you're missing, its easy to know where you went."

She saw my hair and smiled. "Nice hair." That's when I noticed her hair also had blue in it. I had followed through with my plan and put blue in it, and I was in love with it. "Thanks." We walked inside and I tossed her a bottle of water. "So, spill all the drama that's happened lately." I tell her the whole story and by the end, her mouth is wide open in disbelief.

"Damn, all that?" I nod my head. "I thought you and Madison had an unbreakable relationship! Never would have thought this would happen." We were chatting in the kitchen when a loud clap of thunder scared us. "Really? Leave Florida hoping to escape rain and storms, only for it to storm here?" I laugh and walk into the living room, turning on the Rays game. "Quit complaining and watch your husband on TV." She runs into the room, jumps over the couch and sits there, watching Kevin play.

Sam was asleep in the guest room and I was watching TV when someone knocked on the door. Glancing at the clock, I see it's 12:34 AM, plus it was still storming so I was confused as to who would be here. When I open the door, Im surprised by who's standing there.

"Madison? Get in here! It's storming out there!" I yank him inside and close the door behind him. "What are you doing here?" I ask him, half glad and half pissed off. "I came to see if you were okay and to apologize to you face-to-face." He was shivering in his soaking wet clothes, so I grabbed his hand and pulled him upstairs. "Here, you left clothes here before. Go take a warm shower and change clothes, then we will talk."

A short time later, he walked back downstairs no longer shivering and in dry clothes. "Alright, what do you wanna tell me?" I asked him as he sat down on the couch while I was sitting in the recliner. "I wanna apologize for everything I put you through. From ignoring you while we were together to blowing up at you the other day. Im sorry for all that." He started to tear up as he spoke and my heart began to break.

He hide his face in his hands, trying to hide the tears from me. Standing up, I walk over to the couch and sit next to him. "Maddy." I say as I wrap him into a hug. Slowly, his crying stopped only to be replaced by snores. He had cried himself to sleep. I laid him down on the couch and laid a blanket over him. "Goodnight Maddy." I walk into my room where I fall asleep for the night.
