Im woken up the next morning by Sam screaming at the top of her lungs. Her footsteps race up the stairs and she runs into my room, a look of disbelief on her face. "Have I finally gone crazy, or is Madison seriously passed out on your couch?!" "Yeah, but I can explain why he is!" She crosses her arms over her chest and leans against the wall. "Start explaining."
Thinking back to last night, I begin to tell her what happened. "When you went to bed after talking to Kevin last night, I started to watch Full House on TV. At like 12:30, I heard a knocking sound on the door. Madison was standing there, soaking wet and shivering from the rain." After taking a breath, I continue. "I pulled him inside and he took a shower and changed, then came and talked to me. He apologized to me for everything that happened then he started to cry. I wrapped him into a hug and he cried himself to sleep. That's all that happened, I swear."
"It better be." She walks out of my room and I walk into my bathroom. Brushing my hair out, I throw it into a messy bun before walking downstairs. Just as I was going to walk into the living room, I over hear Sam and Madison talking. "She told me her side of what happened last night, now I want your side." He sighed before talking.
"An anonymous person told me about Clayton cheating on Bri. I knew she would take the news badly, and by then nobody knew where she was. She had disappeared and wouldn't answer anybodys calls or texts. As soon as the game was over, I rushed to the airport and got a plane ticket out here. I thought she might have been here and I wanted to see if she was or not. It was raining and I was freezing cold, but that didn't stop me. Luckily, she was here. After I showered and changed, I apologized. That's all that happened."
I stood there a few more seconds. trying to not seem suspicious. "Morning guys." Somebody had made coffee, so I grabbed a mug and poured myself a glass. Warmth filled my body as I took a sip. I sit on the counter while Sam and Madison stare at me. "Why are ya'll staring at me?" They look away and act like nothing happened. "Okayyy." I draw out the Y. "I'll be in the barn if ya'll need me." Jumping off the counter, I grab an old South Caldwell hoodie and slip on my boots before walking out to the barn.
"Nice hoodie." Someone says from behind me, causing me to jump. Turning around, I see Madison standing there, leaned against the doorway. My face begins to heat up as I realize what he was talking about. I was wearing his old baseball hoodie that he gave me. "You are still so adorable when you blush." He says that and I begin to blush even more, causing him to laugh.
I go back to working and Madison walks up behind me. "Still the same country girl. I always loved when we would come back to North Carolina and you would help me work on the farm." A smile comes to my face as I think back, but quickly disappears. I return to what I was doing, cleaning up random items that were lying around. "Bri, please talk to me." My heart begins to break as he calls me Bri.
"Madison, please don't call me Bri." A look of hurt crosses his face. "It brings back to many memories. Happy memories at that. Just because I forgave you, doesn't mean it doesn't still hurt my heart." He sighs. "I understand. But I was hoping we could start over." "What does that mean? Are you trying to ask me out again?" "Possibly."
I go silent. "Look, you put baseball before me. I'll never forget that. If I get back together with you, there is always the possibility that happens again." I finally speak up, but it was barely a whisper. He steps forward and grabs my hands, intertwining our fingers. "I promise it won't happen. Please, just give me another chance. Im miserable without you." Another sigh escapes my lips. "Promise?" "I promise." Wrapping my arms around his body, I rest my head on his chest. "Alright."
He places a kiss to the top of my head before throwing me over his shoulder. "Don't do it!" I shriek as he walks towards the pool. Water surrounds me and as I resurface I see him laughing. "Not funny." I hold my hand out for him to help me, and when he goes to pull me out of the water, I pull him in. He comes back up and wraps his arms around me. "You better be glad I love you." He says as he buries his head in the crook of my neck.
I turn around and wrap my arms around his neck. "I love you too." Our lips connect and everything feels right again. I was back in Maddy's arms and we were talking to one another again. "ABOUT DAMN TIME!" Sam shouts, causing us both to jump. I flip her off and she runs away, probably to text the guys about it.
