“Good Morning Wellsworth, this is George from Wktv news, now for the traffic watch.” That blasted TV volume is going to be the death of me. I hate mornings.
“Cerise, honey it’s time to get up and go for our run. Get your ass up in sweats. Be ready in 5 pumpkin!”
“Ugh.. Why? Why can’t I get a decent sleep in like a normal teenager? “
I had been restless the past nights, I don’t know why. I ran to my bathroom to do my morning rituals and changed into my racer back top and trainer pants.
“Get up NOW!” My dad shouted from downstairs.
“Keep your hair on Rodin, I’m up.”
“Good, and that’s dad to you sweety.” I ran down the stairs as he handed me my water bottle.
“Thanks DAD. I said in a mocking tone. Let’s go.”
After the usual 10 km run, we head off to the gym for some light weights and stretching exercises. This had been the ritual every day. I am only thankful that despite my constant bingeing, I get to maintain my athletic physique. Keeping to a certain weight has to maintained, my dad said.
“I’m staying back after practice later dad. I just need to catch up with Analia and Lathan.” Analia, my bestfriend works at Studebaker as a barista.
“I don’t like the idea of you hanging out with the pool cleaner, Cerise. He seems pretty off to me. We don’t know much about him so you’d better be careful. There are a lot of weird fellas in this town.”
“Are you saying that just because he’s the pool cleaner? I never thought of you as the judgmental type dad.”
“It’s not being judgmental. I am just protective of you. You’re all I have.” He stood in front of me as we reached the corner to our house. He looks so beat up, I felt sorry for him.
“I understand dad. I won’t be long. I’ll text you afterwards when I’m heading home.” He smiled and ruffled my hair like he used to do.
“Hey!!” I said in an attempt to smack his hand.
“Race you to the front door.” He laughed and ran off. Ugh! He is just childish at times.
*******
I was sitting in class gathering my things for the lunch break, when a messenger knocked on the door.
“Is this room 431?”
“Yes, it is.” said one of my classmates.
“I have a delivery for a Cerise Morrigan.” I raised my hand and my eyebrow.
