~ At the Queen's Palace ~
The knights walked inside the palace, slightly hesitant. They hoped that the Queen wouldn't be upset that they didn't arrived with a head. Or two. To their surprise, the Queen seemed amused. She quickly wrote a letter and gave it to one of the knights, who went to deliver it to the blue caterpillar.
The knights finally reached their destination and eyed the caterpillar that was resting comfortably on what seemed to be a mushroom. The caterpillar slowly opened his eyes and blew the smoke in the knights faces, causing them to go into a coughing fit. With all the smoke surrounding the area, it could easily be mistaken for fog. If it weren't for the smell that is.
The caterpillar observed the knights boredly." What does the queen want now? My smokes aren't doing any harm." The knights simply handed the letter to the blue caterpillar. He sighed as he slowly opened it, taking his sweet time. He read the letter, apparently he has to become a optical course for the Mad Hatter. "Fine. I'll do it. Oh, I suggest not breathing to much of this in...." He paused before continuing, "You'll start seeing things if you do."
The Hatter and Cheshire were almost to the middle of the forest when smoke began to surround them."Ugh." The Hatter groaned as she pinched her nose together. "Only that caterpillar can make such a foul smell." The Cat said distastefully. The Hatter nodded in agreement. "When will he ever stop smoking that hooka." The Hatter complained. The Hatter saw something at the corner of her eye and turned her head quickly. "Huh?..." She mumbled. "What is it?" Cheshire asked. "I thought I just saw something just now.." The Hatter replied, still observing her surroundings. "All I can see is the smoke. "Cheshire said. The Hatter rubbed her eyes and dismissed it as nothing. "Hm... Oh well, I guess it was nothing. "
The knights that was with the caterpillar came out. They got into a fighting position, ready to attack the two if needed. A newbie fired an arrow by accident and cut Cheshire on the arm.
Chesire glared at the knight, her eyes glowing slightly. To say she was angry was an understatement. "You shouldn't have done that. " She stepped forward, unleashing her claws. The knight who fired the arrow felt fear consume him and he ran without a second thought. Cheshire teleported in front of him, grinning as she left 4 shallow cuts on his cheek.
The Hatter took out her sword and began to spin around, gracefully slicing her enemies in half. Cheshire did the same with her claws, laughing a bit at all the blood. There wasn't that many of the enemies to begin with so they quickly finished them off. As they kept walking the Mad Hatter could've sworn that she saw something move. She readied her sword, her eyes flicking all over the place, ready to attack. "What's the matter, Hatter. Losing your head?" The Cat asked with a smile on her face. "Something's coming and it might have to do with that smoke. " The Hatter replied, her eyes narrowed.
"The smoke will cover the truth that is yet so far away, and those who are sane will only see gray. " The Hatter looked at the Cat with confusion. "What exactly is that supposed to mea- " The Hatter was cut off by the Cat. "I'll go talk to that caterpillar, The Queen must've gotten him into this somehow. " With those words the Cat began to disappear until only her grin was in view as she remembered something."Oh! Don't let sanity take over." She chuckled as she finally disappeared.
The Hatter spun around as she heard laughter from behind her, she was starting to see things but she couldn't exactly make out them out. She stepped closer to get a better look. As she got close enough she could make out a figure of a mouse.
"O-oh god no... " As she stood, barely a foot away from the figure, she could tell exactly who it was.
"M-mou-m." The Hatter couldn't even gather her words correctly because in front of her was the dead dormouse. She choked down a sob. The dormouse was decapitated. It's head no where in sight.~ With Cheshire ~
Cheshire appeared in front of the caterpillar. "May I ask why you're helping the Queen to ruin the quest of the Hatter?"
The caterpillar looked at the Cat and answered painfully slow. "Quest? What quest? I'm not in any quest. " The cat looked at the caterpillar, not even the slightest bit angry but instead rather intrigued.
"Well then. How about this question. " The Cat paused before continuing, "Why is the Red Queen helping herself to you?" The caterpillar looked at Cheshire and then yelled " THE MUSHROOM, OF COURSE!!" The Cat blinked repeatedly, surprised at him suddenly shouting. However, the Cat was always intrigued with the caterpillar, no matter how odd he acted. Because obviously, quite obviously, she was odd as well.
