The early morning sunlight slipped in through the curtains, painting the room in soft golden hues. Dust particles floated lazily in the beam of light, and the air carried a quiet warmth. Akshu lay curled up in Vishnu’s arms. Though her cramps were still there, they were bearable now — softened by the comfort of his steady warmth. In her sleep, she instinctively shifted closer, her fingers clutching his t-shirt lightly as if afraid he might disappear.
Vishnu stirred awake when he felt her move. For a moment, he didn’t open his eyes. He simply smiled.
When he did open them, the sight in front of him made his heart melt — her face resting against his chest, her brows slightly relaxed, her breathing slow and even. Carefully, he brushed a strand of hair away from her forehead and ran his fingers through her hair with such tenderness that even the silence felt sacred.
She stirred.
Her eyes fluttered open slowly… and the moment she realised how close they were — her cheeks flushed deep pink.
She looked up at him shyly.
He leaned forward and pressed a lingering kiss on her forehead.
Vishnu (in his raspy morning voice): “Good morning, ammu.”
Akshu (softly): “Morning…”
He studied her face carefully, concern replacing the playful warmth.
Vishnu: “Ippo vali illa le… okay va?”
Akshu: “Vali iruku… aana thangura alavuku dha iruku. Neenga poi kulichu ready aagunga, naa kulichuttu breakfast and lunch ready panniren…”
She tried to get up.
Immediately, he pulled her gently but firmly back into his chest.
Akshu: “Yen’ga enna panreenga… vidunga… time aachu… 7 aachu…” His expression changed. Not angry — but protective.
Vishnu: “Nee poi kulichitu vandhu rest edu. Ippo dha konjam better aa iruke. Adhukulla vela paakanuma unaku?” There was no space for argument in his tone.
She pouted.
Akshu: “Ungaluku late aagume nu dha sonne… neenga ennaye thittureenga…” He almost smiled at her expression — but controlled it.
Vishnu: “Naa innaki velaki pola ma. Leave potten. Ippo nee kelvi kekkama poi kulichitu vaa.”
He gently bumped his nose with hers and kissed her forehead again before leaving the room.
