(The song above inspired this chapter)
To be in good terms with Michael was wonderful for Miriam, it should have helped her sleep better because her levels of stress were regulated by the so-called love hormones. However, that was absolutely not the case. A few days later, Michael telephoned with Miriam after dinner time to catch up on the last happenings. What was initially intended to be a short phone call quickly extended to an all-nighter. Around half past eight, Miriam reminded herself of a good reason to hung up the phone and it was because she needed the next two hours prior to work to recover.
"You must have forgotten, but I haven't." Michael introduced, hinting at a certain appointment that Miriam had.
"Forgotten what?" She couldn't remember. "I forgot everything else when you told me you sold your car for millions of AUD to pay for the expenses of the ARISE event."
"It's what idiots do." He disclosed, with a giggle. "Purely use the name of Christ for profit."
"Some people make profit of it to use it rightfully. It's not so black and white." Miriam revealed. "I don't think it is that bad, but if that's what you felt led to do, it's best to obey." She put her fingers on her eyes trying to appease the burning sensation in them. "I'm feeling so drowsy!"
She heard a giggle from Michael on the other side of the line.
"You forgot you have a meeting with Adam at 09:00?!" He could barely believe her, still with a teasing tone.
Miriam was still lost in time. "No I didn't!" She protested. "That's tomorrow." She said. "Isn't it?" No longer sure.
"That tomorrow you're referring to is today. Precisely, later on." Michael tried to help her reasoning. "As in the next 30 minutes."
Miriam looked at her phone, simply checking her dates and time when a text popped up. It was Adam's. He announced that he had arrived at the meeting point, but no rush for he was early.
"Good grief!" She gasped in horror.
Her drowsiness left her immediately.
"Tell me how it went." Michael asked, realizing that she would hung up soon.
"I'll let you know when we meet later at your luxurious place in Double Bay." She teased him.
Michael giggled. "I plan to meet you earlier at the restaurant." He informed.
"It's not that I don't wanna see you, but I think at least one of us should sleep." Miriam advised. "It better be you, for you have a dinner to prepare." She teased.
"I know." Michael laid on his back, on his bed, hand on his head and the elbow jotting to the side. He sighed, barely believing that he had openly talked to Miriam about his deepest feelings, and darkest sides of him. "I really like opening up to you." He disclosed.
"I like when you do that, and I like to open up to you too." She sighed, wrapped up in his essence. "I feel that I can be myself, with no filters."
"Same." He knew that he was taking up her time. "Well, you have that date with Adam."
"A breakup date." She cared to clarify. "I'm gonna end this once and for all." Miriam disclosed. "I just need the courage to go through with it." She referred to finishing her romantic ties with Adam.
"You're brave." he encouraged her. "I'll let you go now."
"You're sweet." She beamed. "Bye!" Thus she hung up the phone.
Miriam left her bed at lightning speed. Fortunately the apartment had two toilets, and hers was empty. This was probably her quickest shower ever. Ten minutes later she was ready. Before leaving the apartment, she greeted the remaining inhabitants and left to the cafe around the corner, where she met with Adam.
