No, not another morning having to choose what to wear, subconsciously trying to impress Michael! Why was it so important to try to impress the guy Miriam liked, especially when he liked her already? It was all about appreciation. She came up with a monochromatic green and oversized outfit, highlighting her narrow waist a bit. With that fit she still hid most of her hourglass shaped body, but looked extra feminine - at least far more than usual.
As she entered in the kitchen to eat breakfast, both Joel and Debora were perplexed at her appearance.
"Bein' green," Joel was obviously teasing her. "Who are you trying to impress?" He had just set a pancake on the empty plate on the table.
Miriam ignored her brother and sat next to Debora as she grabbed the pancake. The atmosphere between Miriam and Debora was still tense, so the latter chose to leave with the true excuse that she needed to do her hair or else they would be late to the service.
Miriam made sure that the coast was clear before she began talking to Joel. She looked behind her shoulder and when her brother had finished the last batch of pancakes, he sat at the table keeping Miriam company.
"Do you remember that guy from Melbourne?" She asked, biting into her pancake.
"Care to elaborate?" Joel found the question vague.
"The one that was attacked by the dogs in Melbourne." Miriam had no patience to explain more details.
"Ah!" He exclaimed. "What about him?" He asked nonchalantly.
"Don't you ever wonder about him?"
Joel looked at his sister with a puzzled face, and feeling slightly disturbed with the question. "What for? The hospital thanked us for helping, but any personal information about the patient was confidential."
"They never contacted you to at least inform if the patient made it?"
"If they had, I'd tell you!" Joel informed. "And why are you brining this up? It didn't even happen to you."
"I just caught myself many times thinking about what happened to that guy!" She shrugged. "There's nothing wrong with it, is there?
"It's weird!" Joel looked at her with a slight disapproval. "Especially because the trauma didn't even happen with you."
Miriam scoffed, finding it amusing. "You know what's even more weird?"
Joel looked at her with a look of impatience. "Would you care to hit the nail on the head...?" He suggested.
Miriam looked at him defiantly, and exhaled trying to point out his disrespect. "Yesterday, Michael showed me scars he had on his legs," She began to narrate. "he said he got them on the course of a dog incident in Melbourne."
Joel's heart almost jumped inside of him. "No way!" He was finally interested in the conversation.
"Way!" Miriam was finally understood. "When he told me, I was shocked with the coincidence. That's probably why our date ended so abruptly."
"Yeah, you get shocked pretty easily." Joel teased, even laughed at her.
Miriam grimaced her complaint at him. "That and because he said he had committed his life to Christ." She drank from her water. "That's a bigger shocker."
"I rest my case."
"You rest your case on what?" Miriam was indignant.
"On how easily you get shocked." He teased again.
She ignored her brother and continued to eat her pancakes in resolute silence. Joel looked at her almost guessing that there was something on her mind. Instead of guessing, he decided to ask.
