~This story is sorta like the Walking Dead in some ways, but it is just based off of it and put into my own story. Everything is mine. Hope you enjoy! (Italics are thoughts or flashbacks and bold is important stuff/readings.)
I jolt awake. Gasping for air. I glance around, white pasty walls, tiled flooring , and a single table to my right. I hear a faint beeping, turning to my left I see an IV, flickering every so often signaling that tiny amount of life it still has. The lights above me flicker as well and the window, that I now see in the far left corner, is shattered all on the ground. I try to sit up but a mind-numbing pain shocks through my body and I fall back onto the bed, which wasn't suck a good idea either, it knocks what little air I have in my lungs out and I end up passing out.
My eyelids slowly flicker open. "What? Where am I?" Better yet, who am I? I ask myself, hoping for an answer. Then the pain jolts back to me. I groan out and try to steady my breathing. Is this a hospital? I take in my surroundings, trying to make sense of all this. A loud shattering sound echos from the hall. "Hello? Nurse? Doctor? Anybody?" I yell, praying for someone to come and explain what is going on. "Please, somebody!" I beg. Tears fill my eyes and I try to sit up once again, being careful not to hurt myself anymore than I apparently am. Grunting up out of the bed, detaching any wires from my body, I notice an armband.

Melody. My name is Melody. I am 17 years old. I live in Virginia. It's all still a haze. I am so confused, I don't know what is going on outside of this room! Stop. You're only going to get worked up, calm down, take a deep breath and just open the door. Ask the nice receptionist out there all of your questions. It'll all be alright. I take a deep breath and start towards the door. Step-by-step. Then all of the feelings of being awake hit me all at once. I'm thirsty. My throat, it's so dry, it hurts just to swallow. Then I realize I need to use the restroom, my bladder is so full it just might explode. Thankfully the restroom is just a few steps away. I reach the door and do in, coming face-to-face with...myself? The mirror reflects what looks like a shell of a person. I don't even recognize myself. Messy long brown hair with bangs, pale skin, emerald green eyes, and the too-large hospital gown. I stare at myself in the mirror for a few minutes. So this is me. Well now I know (or remember I suppose) what I look like and my name. Aleast I'm making progress. I turn the faucet of the sink and water rushes out. Just the sound of the water makes my throat burn. I cup my hands and droink as much as I could. Now to finish other business.
After I finished I wobbled over to the door and attempted to open it. The handle turned but it seemed as if something was blocking it. I push at the door harder and it flies open. I fell to the ground and gasp for air once again. That reminds me to ask the receptionist why exactly I am in the hospital in the first place. I struggle to get off the ground and back on my feet. Once I look up I am completely dumb-founded. The hallways of the hospital is covered with shards of glass and debris. Bullet holes in the near-by walls, blood and guts spattered everywhere. This is when panic starts to settle in my bones. I don't know what to think, what to do or where to do. Tears once again threaten to spill out of my eyes.
I turn back around, my logical side taking over, and head back into the room. Scattering the room, looking for anything to help me. Finally I find a clipboard (atleast what is left of it) and flip through the remaining papers.

Okay. Well atleast now I know why I am here. More progress. Now, time to find out what the heck happened outside...I head back towards the door and try to think of any senarios that would make sense right now. Ravenous pack of animals? No. Fire? No, nothing is burned from what I can tell. I keep thinking of senarios as I carefully walk down the hallway. Avoiding glass and any other debris in my way. Halfway down the hall I see an exit sign. I quicken my pace to get to the door. As soon as I reach the door I swing it open and rush down the stairs. My ribs hurt so much but I don't stop; I need to get out of here. After miserably rushing down the stairs I finally make it to the door. Before opening the door, I attempt to catch my breath. Breathe. In and out. There we go. I push open the door and the cool spring air hits my face. I close my eyes and let the sun warm my pale skin as I take in the outdoors. My moment of happiness soon ended once I opened my eyes. Blood. Everywhere...Bodies scatter the ground in front of me. Debris everywhere, the rancid smell of rotting flesh strike my nose and I gag at the smell. Now I'm really afriad.
With wide eyes I try to make sense of what is upon me. Out of instinct, no matter how much it hurt, I ran. Glancing down at the address on my armband I stop and look for street signs. Following the signs I ran into this small neighborhood of about 20 houses. I gulp out for air and stop. Is this where I live? Maybe...If I find my house I will find out what is going on. Running towards the houses I hear a noise. The snapping of twigs and small footsteps. I freeze in my tracks and slowly turn to look. I yelp out in surprise before I enter darkness.
