Hailey wiped the bottom of her lip. She could still taste bile and she was beyond thirsty. Earlier, Jason had wrapped a blanket around her and turned on the heater. Now, he was in the driver's seat, his fists clenched, staring at the front window.
Why is he so mad?, Hailey thought to herself, scanning him. His jaw was tightened, and his hair was a mess.
Finally, after a few moments, Jason spoke. It was so quiet, Hailey had to strain her ears to hear.
But she heard it. "Can you tell me what happened now?"
Hailey nodded and tried to swallow the dry feeling in her throat. But she was parched. And she knew Jason could tell. Jason handed her a cold water bottle, and Hailey grasped it like a lifesaver. Her hand was shaking so hard she couldn't twist open the cap.
"Can you....open it for me?" She said in a hoarse voice. In her ears she sounded weak. A flash of anger passed over Jason's eyes, but he twisted the bottle open and handed it to her. She drank greedily, spilling a little on the blankets and leather seats. After she had finished half the bottle, her throat felt a little better. "Sorry for spilling some."
Jason shook his head. Then turned to her. And she was surprised.
His face, his eyes especially, were full of emotion. Anger, sadness, guilt. She could tell he was trying to mask it, but he couldn't. And all she wanted to do then was kiss him. But she held herself back and remembered Sarah's warning.
Fuck it. She thought to herself. Even though Sarah was her best, and only, friend, she couldn't ignore Jason. She literally couldn't. Jason already found a spot in her heart.
Jason placed his hands on her shoulders. Hailey gasped at the contact. His hands felt so warm and reassuring. He shook her. "Why do you keep things to yourself? Why do you keep pain to yourself? Why don't you share it, instead of burdening it all on yourself? You know you have people out there who really care for you? Who would hate to see what just happened a few minutes ago without wanting to fucking save you? You know how much it hurts to see someone you love get hurt?!"
Hailey didn't have time to act surprised because at that moment, she felt Jason's lips on hers.

Jason was literally in heaven.
Maybe the moments before were hectic. And he was more emotional than when his dad died. But when he kissed her, he felt like weights had been lifted off his shoulders. She immediatly responded. And he was glad.
Now he could tell Sam to call of the plan.
Jason felt proud of himself, for once. He could see Hailey and him, side by side, married. Their own kids. Happy, happy memories.
But he had to think of the situation at hand.
And that throught brought him to reality. He slowly started to draw back when Hailey moaned and clamped his cheeks with her soft palmd and pulled him closer to her. He smiled against the kiss. Hailey was.....Hailey. Cute, stubborn, quiet.....
And they both broke apart, panting. Hailey looked up at him with her big green eyes. All he saw was lust. And all his blood went south. He looked away but he knew he was blushing. And Hailey surprised him by laughing.
Jason turned back to her and she was laughing so hard she was shaking. And Jason started laughing.
Soon they were laughing so hard, they were clutching their stomachs.
Finally there laughter died down, and the air was replaced with awkwardness.
Hailey broke the silence. "Out of all the events that happened today.....this one was the best."
Jason found himself smiling. "Touché. Who would've thought our first kiss would be in my car, right after you're almost kidnapped by a teacher?"He meant that in a joking manner, but all the happiness left Hailey's eyes. She slumped in her seat and did another unwxpected thing. She started to cry.
And Jason knew something was really, really wrong.
