"Hailey! We were supposed to go to McD today! You promised me yesterday! I can even show you the text!" Said a pissed Sarah. Hailey groaned and covered her face with her hand. "Sarah, I forgot! I'm sorry! Maybe tomorrow!"

Sarah rolled her eyes. "Only to be ditched again! Hailey, this is getting boring. We are going today and that's final!"

Hailey huffed and rolled her eyes. "Fine. I feel really guilty, Sarah. I'm sorry. I'll pay, okay?" Immediately, Sarah's features softened. "Oh, kiddo, I'm sorry. I was just pissed because you kept on ditching me. You know how it feels like to be ditched? C'mon, let's go." Hailey started to stand up, but Sarah looked at something behind Hailey with wide eyes. Hailey furrowed her eyebrows. "Sarah...?" She waved her hand in front of Sarah's face. Sarah shooed it away. "Uh, Hailey, there's this guy behind you and--"

Hailey quickly turned around. She gasped and choked on her saliva, coughing loudly. She couldn't believe he was behind her! "Uh, uh, uh, uh....hi?" Hailey stuttered, her face turning a bright shade of crimson. Jason laughed and said, "And hello to you, Hailey Rhodes." He emphasized her last name. "Jason Reed." She mocked him in the same tone. Sarah cleared her throat. "Oh shit," Hailey said. "Uh, this is my friend that I was talking about yesterday, Sarah McGuire." Sarah waved at him and blushed as he smiled back. Hailey wondered why she was acting so shy, she was naturally beautiful.

"Uhm, I didn't know you would really come to see me," Hailey whispered bashfully, looking down at her toes. Jason lifted her chin up softly and stared into her green eyes. "I would do anything for you." Hailey gasped and Jason jerked backwards. "I mean," he scratched his neck. "To keep you safe. I would do anything to keep you safe." Hailey felt disappointed. She was shocked that Jason said that because she thought he felt the same way for her. But she was wrong. She nodded and cleare her throat. "Sarah and I were about to go to McDonalds, so excuse me--"

"Could I join you? Er--I mean could I join both of you?" Hailey opened her mouth to say "no" but Sarah beat her to it. "Sure. We would love that," Sarah said in a husky voice. Jason lifted one eyebrow and Hailey laughed. Sarah elbowed her. "I was trying to flirt with him," she said rather loudly for a whisper. Jason grinned. "C'mon I'll drive and pay," he said. Sarah and Hailey shook their head. "I'll pay," they said, simultaneously. Sarah cleared her throat. "We'll pay."

Jason nodded and they walked out the school.

Jason stared at the girls as they both ate their burgers. Sarah studied him with eyes that said, "Don't blow it," while Hailey was oblivious to the situation. She was staring into space, chewing her Big Mac. Jason turned to Sarah and she grinned at him. Creepy.

"So Jason," she began. "How did you two meet?" Damn, she was starting to sound like a mother, Jason thought. Hailey snapped out of her daze and said, "Sarah I already told--"

"I wanna hear it from him," Sarah said firmly. With that, Hailey was silenced, and Sarah's gaze made me feel smaller than an ant. "Uh..." Jason picked his words carefully. "Well, uh, I was on my phone, texting my--"

"Ex." Sarah finished. Jason stared at her in awe. "How did you..."

Sarah chuckled humorlessly. "You ex really hates Hailey, you know that right? I think because she's jealous of something Hailey has I don't know. But ever since first grade, Hailey's been bullied by her. So I suggest you guys keep your relationship a secret."

"We don't have a relationship," Jason said. Hailey nodded. "I'm pretty sure if Jessica found out about you hanging out with me, she would have me dead. So there is no way in hell that I wanna hang out with you." Ouch. That really hurt. Jason nodded and swallowed.

"So you guys, it's best if you end this," Sarah said. Jason nodded. Hailey's lips quivered. And Jason felt heartbroken. "Okay, Hailey. Sarah. Goodbye." Jason stood up and paid for the food and drove them back to West High. After he parked his car he dropped them off and he drove back to the only person he knew that understood every fucking thing. Sam.
