After Hailey had learned that Jason's car engine had broke down, and that his friend Samuel was coming to fix it, Hailey said, "You know, Jason, I don't freak out over things."

She mumbled, "I deal with a lot of shit at home."

Jason looked at her strangely. "What was the second part?"

Hailey realized she shouldn't have said anything. "Nothing," she stated. "Just.....forget that I even said anything."

Jason looked at her, bewildered, but nodded.

Hailey looked at her watch.

5:37 PM.

If Sam doesn't get here soon, I won't be able to go to the gym, Hailey thought to herself. She usually spent two hours at the g each day. Hailey checked her watch again.

5:38 PM.

Jason raised an eyebrow at her. "Are you late for the gym or something?"

Hailey shook her head. "It's nothing," she added. Jason quirked his eyebrows and took a deep breath. "Look," he said. "I-I think you hide many things, a-and I know that I'm not in the place to judge or anything, it's just that you seem like a balloon that's so full of air that it needs to pop."

Hailey looked at him weirdly.

Jason grinned and shook his head. "What I'm trying to say is, you are so full of secrets, that I think you need to start telling someone. Do you have like...a best friend?"

Sarah, she immediately thought. Hailey nodded. "Yeah, I told her everything."

Jason nodded, but his eyes were a different story. While Jason appeared calm, cool, relaxed, his eyes were wild with emotions. Curiosity, confusion, desire.

"You wanna talk about it?" Jason asked. "It's better if you share things with a stranger," he added in persuasion.

Hailey shook her head. What if this "stranger" was some sort of disguised cop?

She realized she had had enough. "Jason, I can walk to the gym now. Thanks for taking me halfway there."

Jason froze. "R-right now?"

But he thought better of himself and said, "Are you sure? I mean, after Sam comes--"

He didn't get to finish his sentence, because at that moment, he saw a beat up white Ford park right in front of them. Hailey turned to Jason and smirked, "Is that your little buddy?"

The tip of Jason's ears turned red. "Uh, yeah--"

The door of the Ford swung open and Hailey saw a tall tan guy come out of the car. His hair was a large messy blob and when he turned to the car, Hailey noticed a rectangular strip of his eyebrow was shaved off. When Sam noticed Jason's car, he smiled and started walking faster.

Jason opened the door and signaled for Hailey to do the same.

As they got out, Sam wiggled his eyebrows at Hailey, causing her to laugh and Jason to roll his eyes.

"Who is this hot stuff?" Sam clicked his tongue. Hailey turned red and smiled as Jason scratched his neck. "Sam, this is Hailey--"

Sam interrupted. "Ooh! She's more hot then I thought she'd be! Where'd you find her at?"

Hailey cleared her throat. "Sam, I'm right here, ya know. You could've asked me how we met. Or how I met him."

Sam smiled and winked at her. "Okay then, talk."

So Hailey told him how she was walking and she bumped into Jason and them Jason gave her a ride to the gym.

"But his engine failed," she said, "so we were stuck here. I really can't wait that long for you to fix it, so I should get going. I can walk there..."

Sam shook his head. "You don't need to do that, it'll take me, what, five minutes to do this? Watch, bébé, I've done this a million times. His engine is a fucking failure."

Hailey shook her head. "Then I don't need to go to the gym. Just take me home."

Hailey checked her watch.

5:59 PM.

Around two more hours left. Hailey cleared her throat. "It only takes me thirty minutes by walk to get to the gym from my house. So it'll probably take half of that time. Fifteen minutes?"

Sam shook his head. "Don't worry! By the time I'm done, you'll be able to go to the gym. Unless....if you wanna go to the gym right now, I could drive you."

Hailey nodded and flashed her teeth. She noticed Jason clenching his fists. "Thanks Sam but--"

"She'll ride with me," Jason finished. Hailey looked at him in shock. Jason turned to Hailey with wide eyes.

Sam put his hands up in defense. "Dang! I was just try in' to help ya girl! Jeez, it's not like I'm about ta fuck ha or somethin'! Damn!"

Jason cursed to himself while Hailey laughed.

"See? I'm already makin' ya girl laugh. You can't do that, can you?" Sam said.

Jason looked at Hailey. "Don't you think you should be heading to the Gym soon?"

She froze and looked at her watch.

6:12 PM.

Did she have enough time? She decided not to go.

"Uh, I'm not gonna go to the gym. I'm just gonna go home. See you guys tomorrow," she said faintly and started walking away.

Jason called after her. "Do you go to West?"

Again, Hailey froze and turned around. She nodded. Sam flashed her a smile. "He do too, so he'll see ya tomorrow, fam!" He wiggled his eyebrows at Jason. Jason rolled his eyes and smirked.

Hailey smiled, nodded, and waved as she walked from the parked car down the street.

She felt like someone was watching her, looking after her, and for some reason, she was sure it was Jason.

Strangely, she felt very protected.
