Maya was 9 years old when her mom died you see it was her and her mom for a very long time and when her mom died it was very heart braking for her child services tried placing her with her father by he never wanted her ever and so they put her in the orphanage and she was roomed with 2 boys farkle and Lucas
When she was there Lucas never talked and farkle was the one that introduced her to the room and was the first and only one that greeted her and from that point on they were both the best of friends
