The Promise

A/N: I almost forgot to update haha XD...

Niall's POV

I could hear them, I could hear the footsteps behind me. I just kept running and running.

What was I running from?

No idea. I just felt frightened and uncomfortable. After seeing those cuts I knew I wasn't good for Eva. I couldn't protect her without hurting her. I felt like my whole world was crashing down on me.

"NIALL"! I could hear Louis' voice behind me.

I didn't slow for him.

"NIALL...WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING"?!

I jumped over a bush and kept going.

I glanced back over my shoulder at Louis. He had also jumped the bush successfully. I looked back in front of me only to see the single walker in my path. I knocked it and we both fell to the floor. It moved to bite me but I rolled away.

I watched Louis slaughter the beast and stand over me. I cried into my hands.

"Niall, tell me what's going on." Louis requested, his voice was quiet.

"I...I can't do it Louis"! I wailed.

"Do what"?

"This. Take care of her. Live through the apocalypse. Try to live a happy life." I explained.

"Sounds like you have been thinking about it a lot, huh"? Louis sympathised.

"It was seeing Eva's cuts that pushed me over the edge - I couldn't deal with it"!

"Niall, I'm gonna tell you something now that I've never told anyone before..." Louis trailed off and looked me in the eyes.

"What"? I asked.

"I used to run away from home. A lot." He paused for thought. "Every time even the littlest thing happened I'd be gone."

"How long would you run away for"?

"As long as it took for me to man up or come to my senses. Usually as long as it took for my family to find me. I was once gone for four days. I travelled dangerously and slept on the street once but slept the other nights in the underground." Louis' face portrayed pain. "It's always been a part of my life that I'm not proud of."

I looked down not really knowing what to say.

"But I'll tell you what my mum always used to say to me - don't run from your problems, it doesn't make them go away or solve them"! He placed his hand on my shoulder and squeezed it. He slowly shook me. "What I'm saying, Niall, is...you need to stop putting yourself down so bad that you do stuff like this. Our group is stronger with you in it! Running away isn't going to solve anything mate."

I nodded and we hugged, patting each other's backs.

"I'm sorry Louis" I apologised and we both stood up.

"No need honestly. Just...don't do it again"! He chuckled softly. I could tell he was trying to lighten the mood so I laughed with him.

We walked back the way we came and got to the garden. Louis opened the gate and I looked over at Eva. She was in Harry's arms, sniffing.

Eva's POV

I opened my eyes to see the sky - it was clear blue. Not a single cloud in sight.

"Niall"? I mumbled, my throat was dry so it came out as no more than a whisper.

"Eva, how are you feeling"? I heard Harry's voice ask. His head appeared out of nowhere looking down at me.

"Where am I"?

"Eva, what do you remember"? He asked, completely ignoring my question.

"Erm...glass and...err...walkers." I strained to remember the events before I blacked out.

"Yes and do you remember what happened to your back"? Liam asked.

I closed my eyes again and remembered the horrific images of the glass falling onto me.

"The glass it...the pieces fell and they cut into me. The pain...the pain Harry...it hurt so much...so so much." I gasped, trying not to cry.

"I know, I know" Harry pulled me up into a sitting position and held me against him and tried to comfort me.

"Where's Niall"? I whimpered. There was a long pause and Harry held me tighter.

"He's..." Harry started but there was another pause.

"I'm here baby" I heard Niall say and I felt myself being passed to him. I snuggled my head into his neck and cried.

"I know it hurts babe but you're strong and I know you can get through it. I'm gonna help you get through it."

"Promise"? I sobbed.

"Promise" he held me tighter and kissed the top of my head.

A/N: I really just wanted to put this chapter in so I could show Niall's and Eva's bond.
